Some while ago a I had a thread about when the Tivo tried to download program listings, I got the message Failed. Service unavailable.
I posted messages here and in the UK newsgroups and the consensus of opinion was that there was a proxy server causing the problem.
We were then using satellite internet. The ISP allowed us to bypass the proxy and everything worked fine.
Because of the expense of the satellite system we are changing to ADSL.
Guess what? The Tivo using the satellite serive gave the error Failed Service unavailable.
Spoke to the ISP, we have a static IP address and they set it so we were not using the proxy server.
Still wouldn’t download the listings.
On checking the other Tivo which was still using the satellite internet service; this is now having problems and giving the same error message.
Are any other non UK residents having problems?
Because Channel 4 with their on demand service check your ip address and if its not a UK ip address block you from downloading the programs I wonder if Sky/Tivo were doing the same.
The Tivo using the satellite internet has a German IP address and the ADSL a Cyprus one.
Any help / suggestions gratefully received.
