For more than a week, the "Now Playing" Menu in unbeliverable slow on my Tivo S3. It takes minutes to show the list of shows (I have about 30-40 recorded) All of other Tivo's functions seem to work fine: Live TV, the guide, HME apps, etc... However when watching some recorderd shows there definetly the occasional studder.

I have tried rebooting the box, playing with the channel lineup, disabling HME servers, etc... Nothing has worked. Any ideas what's causing this or what I can do to fix it? I am currently on 8.3.

Thanks for the help....

I have at least 75 or 80 programs in the now playing list, more than 50 of those are in the TiVo Suggestions folder. I suspect that if I didn’t use the folder option, now playing might be slower but right now the speed is fine. Are you using folders?

On several Tivos (including a series 3), I've seen hardware disk problems REALLY reduce performance, such as responsiveness to UI commands (all four arrows in all directions). I think that when the disk has problems, it retries numerous times to acquire the data, and starves the CPU. One easy(?) way to check this is to pull the drive, and run diagnostics on it.

Depending on where a drive has problems, it is clear that different functions may be impacted, while other functions are "fine." Itemizing the now-play list may require certain access that exposes the problem on your disk.

Hope that helps...

YMMV

I am using folders (and tried turning them off). I also tried to delete a few programs and it caused the Tivo to reboot. I then tried the following
- Unplugged the cable (I have two cable cards)
- Cleared all season passes, program guides, etc...
- Disabled HME
- Ran a kickstart 52: emergency reinstall (thinking the software was corrupted)
- Ran a kickstart 57 and 58 thinking the filesystem could be repaired
- Just reran guided set up

Yep, I'm thinking the disk is dying on me? The only thing I have not tried is clearing all of the recorded programs out but at this point I don't know if that would make a difference.

I purchased the S3 in late Dec / early January. Anybody know what the warranty is. I have a bad feeling about this....

Sounds like a bad disk to me. I have >200 suggestions, >150 in my deleted items, and 100 or so in the normal list with folders turned on and my now playing is lightning quick on 8.3.

I also tried doing the complete wipe and now playing was still very slow.

Called Tivo support. They were very helpful and are sending a new unit out to me. Its a relief to talk to someone who was helpful, realized I already did all the troubleshooting necesary and did not give me any hassles.
