poll coming soon.
Just realized the first two "no" options are confusing. I meant for the first no to read "No (do not want an S3 now).

I would like to. We have the Comcast DVR now which has been having glitches with playback and recording. Was told that the new guide / box software that we are getting in June would fix it.

This is a concern for me as well. I can see myself buying an S3 and then a few months later there is a hardware refresh of the S3's and they can handle 2 way communication and multistream cards.

* Yes (will be my first S3)
I've been waiting for the first significant price drop from Tivo and this qualifies IMO. With an effective price of $399 after rebate (Amazon price of $606 - $200 = $406), I can go HD OTA only, cancel D* (saving $60/mo) and pay for the S3 within 7 months. After that I am saving money and only (pre) paying for Tivo service.
I'm in.... I am completely bored with D* content, tire of high sat bills and 99% of what I record is HD OTA with my HR10-250. S3 here I come :)
Sure it's still expensive, but is really the best solution for my needs and viewing habits.

I have one S3 and have an SA 8300HD on my other HDTV. I have no immediate plans to get another S3 because I don’t use my other HDTV very often. Thus, the expense of another S3 would not be cost effective when compared to the $10 a month I pay Cox for the 8300HD. Nevertheless, if Cox and TiVo ever get their act together, implement their licensing agreement, and rollout TiVo software to Cox OKC’s DVRs, I’ll be all over it.

Wow, 14 people taking the plunge in the first 6 hours!
I think that Tivo is going to be pleased with how this rebate works out for them.
I answered No, I'm already maxed out, but it's tough to say no at this point. After all, if I already have the DVR, then there's nothing to stop me from going out and getting a new TV!

I have one S3 from launch, had held off and was using an S2 in my bedroom and gym and the SA8300 DVR in my living room. I will buy at least one, if not 2 at this price I think.

It's the lack of MRV that is stopping me buying a second and third S3, not the price. Of course I won't complain if the price comes down while I'm waiting.

Just ordered two S3s via Amazon...opted to not go through Costco to save money on tax. Plus, overnight shipping with a prime account for only $3.99. :)
The rebate form is now also available on the S3 page on Amazon's site.

So will MRV come available by 6/16/07 so I can take advatage of this? I simply don't get the point of having two if you can't watch one from the other!

I've gotten by with the SA 8300 (and previously the SA 8000) for about three years now. Decent hardware in the 8300, but lousy software and user interface.
Looked longingly at the S3 from CES 2006 to launch last fall. However, $800 was a little too steep for me compared with about $10 per month for the cable company DVR. $600 was a little much, but looked more appealing...
Now at $400 with working eSATA, there was no way I could hold out any longer. With dual OTA tuners and a great user interface, I have the option to ditch cable. Moreover, with the 8.3 software I can use Fios without glitches as soon as Verizon rolls it out in my neighborhood.
I will order the Cablecards from Comcast and keep paying the rather high price for cable for the next month or so. However, if Comcast can't get the Cablecards to work within the first week, they'll lose me as a customer.

Hopefully this rebate will be very succesful for TiVo and they will extend it or bring it back for good.

Yes...ordered from Amazon, will be here Thursday, and Comcast will be here Friday to wage the war of the CableCards. The phone rep had me on hold while she found the correct codes for the cards, the first one is free, the second is $1.81 / month :D

I think I have to agree to buy my wife a new sofa set....then I can do this without taking too much crap at home. :)
So basically, this is dropping my overall price from ~$3600 to ~$3400 for my Tivo. (This price includes a $200 rebate and a "free" sofa.....)
I can't even imagine what I'm going to have to do to get the PS3 or XBOX 360 I want in my home theater.

No. The rebate terms require *new* Tivo service for the new box. Transferring an existing Tivo service doesn't qualify.

That's just about where I am. I've been a D* customer for over 10 years. During that time, I've watched their picture quality and customer service go down while their prices went up - way up. It's gotten to the point where D* no longer worth the money.
Like you, almost everything I watch on my HR10-250 these days is OTA. I've just been waiting to get a good price on an S3, and I think this is it. I can get an S3 with 3 years of pre-paid Tivo service for less than the cost of a single year of D* with DVR service. I may be paying it up front, but it's still cheap compared to what I'll be paying if I don't switch.

I currently have 1 lifetime S2 and another S2 @ $6.95/mo. I'm interested in the S3 but need a little clarification on subscription prices. Can I simply buy the S3, activate it at the discounted $6.95/mo, and still get the $200 rebate? Will it require any hoops to jump through or a game of CSR roulette? Didn't see any mention of the $6.95 multi-box discount when I checked their website tonight.
I've been out of the loop as far as Tivo subscription pricing since buying my second S2 a couple of years ago, but seeing the S3 at such an attractive price I may be ready to add a third Tivo to the family.

The detailed terms of the rebate require a *new* Tivo subscription for the new box (S3) in order to qualify for the rebate. It can't be activated on an existing subscription and still qualify for the rebate.

Don't confuse the terms "new customer" and "new subscription". Existing customers can qualify for this rebate, as long as they are not transferring an existing service onto the new S3 hardware.
Multiple other posters have confirmed that MSD will qualify for this rebate, you just have to sign up for a year service plan (prepaid or monthly) on the S3.

OK, now I know that transferred lifetime subscriptions do not count for this rebate, but what if I have a Lifetime gift card? Will that count as a "new" subscription and qualify for the rebate?

I wasn't confusing those two concepts. I agree with everything you're saying.
