I just purchased two Tivo Series 3 HD boxes. Is multi-room viewing supported for these boxes? If not, are there plans to add this support in the near future.

No, and as far as the future your guess is a good as anybody's as TiVo only said there are working on it.

Since the above has answered your question, I am going to ask how you managed to spend all that money on 2 S3s and 2 service agreements without getting the information about MRV. I am not looking to criticize you; I am just curious how the info is missed, as in whether it was unimportant to you, or is it not easy to locate on TiVo's web site, or whatever.
Thanks

well, being an average consumer, knowing their old products support it, one would probably just assume it supported id imagine. He is probably posting here to confirm his assumption? Not too mention, he has 30 days to send it back if it doesnt have the features he was hoping it had.

This person is especially interesting to me because he has the money and the willingness to spend it, and he is different from the people who spend lots of time here investigating every detail to death.

Not every consumer/purchaser (with or without a lot of, assumed, money to spend) suffer from OCDs. ;)
I think it's a perfectly good question...even though I too have seen it asked many times before and I'm sure he'll find the info he's looking for.

Why?? MRV isn't even close to the main reason to own a Series 3, and the op didn't indicate he WOULDN'T have purchased the series3 armed with this information...

Well, some people are intellectually curious, and some aren't.

I'm another candidate for your study. I used to study every detail and hung out with the hackers in the old, old days. I just bought a S3 and ASSUMED it would support the sharing. None of my cursory investigations answered the question.

So, you've come to associate TiVo with MRV, and the surprise to you is that it was even in doubt.

I'm sorry to say that I ass-u-me'd that my new S3 had MRV enabled. I was a little surprised to see that it didn't. Color me whatever flavor you choose, but that's the fact :o

Yep, I too expected all the 'old' features to be included...and built upon... when I picked up my first s3. I was (and still am) disappointed; but since then I have bought two more, so I guess it wasn't that important after all.
In my mind, I assumed also that established features would be included, much like I assumed HD-DVD & BR would include the 'resume play' feature that my DVD players have had for the last 5 years.

Ditto. Tech usually builds on a feature set. Everyone I know that has an s2 was shocked when my shiny new s3 didn't have MRV. I just really really want to use tivocomeback.
I've beat this into the ground, but if the next gen ipod suddenly didn't allow photos to be included, or podcasts, etc there would be a lot of unhappy customers.
Not a deal breaker (love the s3), but I think most will assume it's there (and should).

Are you saying they DON'T?

Poor substitute is the MRV that I use. HDMI cables strung between two rooms with IR repeaters to control the Series 3 units from afar.
MRV is an absolute when you need many more than 2 tuners to record all that prime time programming which two people choose to watch.
I use 6 channels to get everything we want on the DirecTiVo units.
I knew that there was no MRV when I bought my Series 3 units. Hoping for either "official" TiVo functionality or "unofficial" hacked support like my Series 2 DTiVo units. The HDMI solution works but it is a PITA.

....sad ain't it? I have to resort back to what I did prior to Resume Play: noting the time I stopped it and FF to that point in order to resume. I guess one might consider that I AM resume play in my house.

Continuing with the off topic HD DVD "resume playing" you can set a "bookmark" at the stop point and the player will remember it in on board memory for that movie. Works for demo scenes too. Then you just go to the bookmark.

This is entirely dependent on if that particular disc supports that feature. Not all do.

Yes it does work...when I remember to do it.
As far as whether it works on all discs: I don't know - it has worked when I actually did remember, that's about all I can speak for...and I've tried it on HD-DVD only.

Does MRV work with a S3 and S2 tivo? Or does the S3 not support sharing whatsoever?

I, too, ass-u-med the S3 contained all the features of the S2 plus new features. It didn't keep me from purchasing a 2nd S3 though.

I did know that MRV and TTG were not available when I bought but I am guilty of presuming it would be out quickly.
Now its still not out and they let everyone else ship stuff to my S3, just not me :(
I was happy about the wait, but I cannot say I am anymore.

I didn't assume anything. I saw a video presentation at Fry's with S3 hardware in the beginning recording HD on two tuners and later watched MRV features in the same presentation.
What was unfairly done in this video was subtle switches between S3 and S2 units during the video. I own S1, S2 and now S3 and I didn't notice the switches because I had no reason to believe S3 was excluded from the features.
I am still a loyal TIVO customer. I love my S3. But, I was mistreated by TIVO with that advertisement.

That same sort of "trickery" is on the TiVo website.
Unfortunately, one must be aware of enthusiast sites in order to get some insight into any product nowadays. And that insight has to be sorted to eliminate the wheat from the chaff. Whodathunk in the information age one would have to resort to winnowing?

Add me to the list of people who assumed that features were the same or improved over the previous models. In fact, I didn't even realize that it was incompatible with DirecTV. No problem, just cancelled DirecTV and ordered cable. I guess you can call me a Tivo loyalist.

I assumed it was there too. In fact - before I knew the awful truth - on the management console for my account, I could check the box to enable MRV on the S3 - just not save it. I was - and continue to be - horribly dissapointed that this feature is not here. My S3 deperately needs 2 siblings but I won't do it until TiVo get their heads out of their arses.

I'm another poor sucker who thought that of course if MRV is not in the first release it must be enabled soon. Here I am 9 months later and I still have to record the same thing on two separate Tivos. Whether it's cablelabs or Tivo's fault really doesn't matter to me. I spent a lot of money on these units and they're still short a very important feature that many people were led to believe was supported in the S3. I just want it to work and SOON!

Yup, I also purchased two TiVO S3 boxes early on expecting MRV to be available soon after the release of the box. I even ran CAT5 to both locations to make sure that the transfer was nice and fast. I have to admit that I am felling a little suckered at this point.

One thing I *really* don't get is why you can't, at least, PUSH programming to the S3.
For example, all my home movies are now filmed in HD. Why the heck won't they let me stream it to my S3 when I can stream other video to my S2's?!?!

MRV is a deal-breaker for me. We use it a LOT in my home. I'm not paying a premium for a device that looses what I consider one of the most convenient and basic functions of the series 2. I'm not necessarily griping at tivo because I do not know what their reasoning is but for me if I can't network my series 3 it doesn't really have an advantage over my current HD cable DVR. If MRV was added before 6/17 when the current rebate expires I would jump all over it. I'm in the wait and see camp for now.

MRV is a dealbreaker for me too. I would certainly buy one if the feature was available. I use the TivoGoBack (I think that is what it's called). This is the feature in which you can put an MPG file on your PC and pull it to your Tivo. I do that all of the time. Very very nice feature that I am not willing to do without.

Much agreed. I purchased a S3 for christmas 2006 and returned it due to MRV not being available. Now, glad I did as the price has come down and going to wait and see what other manufacturers come out with by christmas of 07 before I do anything.
Might just have to say Bye bye to TiVo

That's my rub with this too. They have Amazon Unbox and TiVoCast, alive and well and more active than ever... but if I want to get the non-HD, MRV-enabled content from a Series 2 in the next room to my Series 3, then it's a no-no still.
It's more than annoying at this point, I'd say.

I have found that my PS3 does a good job of displaying content from my PC, so that is now my TiVotoComeback alternative. I suppose I could even MRV from my S2 by auto-transferring to my server (TiVoToGo) and then watching it on my HDTV using my PS3.
Of course now I only need my S3 for straight HDDVR functionality and it starts getting tough to argue its much better than the CableCo DVR without the added value of all the other TiVo features. Certainly no possible justification for buying additional S3's.
If MRV had been available today I'd have had bought two more of them by now!! TiVo's loss.
