I'm still a few episodes behind, so can someone give a spoiler-free summary of that story? I.e. are they planning a movie or webisode or something?

They made an announcement about Jericho, that there could be plans in the works to at least wrap up the story.
Since the series is officially dead, that's at least something.

Here's the spoiler-free relevant quote from the CBS official response to viewer complaints about the cancellation:
"We have read your e-mails over the past few days and have been touched by the depth and passion with which you have expressed your disappointment," wrote Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment. "Please know that canceling a television series is a very difficult decision. Hundreds of people at the network, the production company and the incredibly talented creative team worked very hard to build and serve the community for this show -- both on-air and online. It is a show we loved, too.
"Thank you for supporting 'Jericho' with such passion. We truly appreciate the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure in the compelling drama that was the 'Jericho' story."

Ok, so nothing specific yet, thanks.
I just hope it's not a cliffhanger ending like they left us with in The Agency. From what I've heard, though, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Maybe it'll be a cartoon.

Maybe it'll be a cartoon.
Or a variety show, perhaps?

It's well suited for a sitcom, I think. What are those wacky New Bern neighbors up to this week?

They obviously didn't love it that much, since it got canceled.

Love has nothing to do with it. It's economics.
And my yearly nitpick (not aimed at ElJay): I think that technically it was not renewed instead of cancelled. Cancelled is like Crusade or Tru Calling, where it gets the axe during the season. :)

A nice two-hour movie special during re-run time in December would be ample time to tie up loose ends. :D

Actually I would settle for a short story. :)
Actually a movie would work. You could catch everyone up with the show by showing the disaster, then the survival going straight to the conflicts in the final episodes of the show. I admit that skips a lot of character development but it would make the movie watchable by those who have never seen the show.

(I think you were being sarcastic but webisodes are the latest token of inaccessibility)

Wait, we come up and Jake Green is in the shower, right?
(argh, I'm way behind on the show.. unfortunately read a spoiler in a different article about the cancellation.. and had to go look up the character name on imdb to just make this poor allusion/joke.)

Yet another example of how playing with the schedule looses viewers. The article specifically said it had problems once it returned from its long haitus.

How many more shows will it take before the network(s) figure this crap out?
Nobody likes to watch an episode, then wait 2 weeks for another new episode.
Start early, or start late, or run two concurrant "seasons" of shows... people WANT to watch serialized shows and the best (only?) way to watch a serialized show is consecutively.
Lump all the reality shows together (Survivor/Big Brother/American Idol etc.), 24, Lost - all are "consecutive" airings.
Turn a tv series into something like year-long school... 12 weeks on, 3 weeks off, 12 weeks on, 3 weeks off.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Fall season and a Spring season. i.e have one set of shows run from September through December, break for the holidays, and then start up new shows like 24 and run through May. This would require more programming from the networks but in that situation maybe Jericho would have had a better chance to make it.

And, it would be able to make more money for the networks because instead of one show to pull advertisers with, there'd be two shows...
But - what do we "the public" know about television programming... we only own TiVo(s)
Which will happen first. Deadwood or Jericho wrap up? Not counting on either.

I thought Deadwood was already a done deal...
I read in an interview with Timothy Olyphant a month or so ago (sorry, do not have the link) that he has not been contacted about a Deadwood movie finale, as had been rumored. Don't know if there have been new developments since.

OMG...that's GENIOUS! I love it.

Umm, I thought it was fairly obvious that he was
going to run it into the train to de-rail it.
Could be wrong but what other reason is there to
take the tank with no mortars to go deal with the train?
