I have an Sony SVR2000 series1 Tivo which I recently hacked using Steve Jenkins' tutorial. I now have ftp, telnet, and TivoWeb running and I love it.
Can I transfer mp3 files from my PC to my Tivo and listen to them using Tivo? If so, how?
I know I CAN ftp the files but I don't know where to put them or how to play them from the Tivo.
Same question with my jpg pictures.
I found something called Tivo Desktop that seems to do this but I think Tivo Desktop can only be used with series 2. Can someone confirm this?
Thank you in advance,
Lloyd
PS: I highly recommend the Steve Jenkins' uprgade tutorial to all newbies. It worked great for me.

Not possible with a Series 1 Tivo.

This is a bummer and another reason I should have bought a series2 when I had the opportunity a few years ago and transferred my lifetime subscription from my series1 . I figured I would wait until I had a good reason to buy a series2 and switch then; I was satisfied with my series1 at the time. However, now Tivo will only allow me to switch my lifetime to a series3 and I am not ready for that; a series3 is expensive and I don't have an HD TV.
I have Vonage for my home phone and would love to use TiVonage, but like .mp3's and .jpg's, TiVonage doesn't work with a series1.
I suspect I will get an HD TV someday (though it could be a few years away) and upgrade to a series3 then. Hopefully, Tivo will still allow me transfer my lifetime subscription then.
Thanks for the reply.

You can listen to MP3s with a Series 1 TiVo, but it doesn't work very well. I tried it a few years ago. I don't remember the name of the program, but if you search through the archives here you should be able to find it. There were two or three different ones that I tried. It's not worth the effort, though. The Series 1 boxes just don't have the horsepower to play them very well.
As for viewing pictures, I believe that is possible as well. TiVo Control Station used a JPEG writer to display JPEG maps from weather.com. I would guess at that at some point someone wrote something to allow you to view your own images. It's probably something you'd have to search the archive sites for.

litzdogg911,
you can use jpegwriter to display jpegs on a series 1, however you have to modify the manipulate the jpeg slightly to make it compatible.
