View Full Version : stuck in setup

When my Philips HDR212 gets past the second phone call in the guided setup, it says "... a few more seconds", and then returns to the start of the setup. So I'm in a loop.

I tried unplugging it, waiting 15 seconds, and then plugging it back in. It went to the setup. I've tried all the buttons on the remote, but they won't let me out of setup.

I got the TiVo at a yard sale. It wasn't stuck this way at first. I reset it to factory settings, and then it went to the setup, and has been there since.

I've had it check the phone connection. Also, the first phone call reports success.

Any suggestions?

Could be a bad HD.

Thanks for the idea. Is there a way to check whether that's really the problem? Also, I wonder what I should do if it is.

To check the hard drive you'll have to remove it from your Tivo, connect it to via IDE in your PC, then use the drive manufacturer's diagnostic utilities (usually available via their web site). But even those utilities sometimes miss problems that can disrupt your Tivo.

Hard drives are pretty cheap these days, so your best bet is to simply get a new drive and image it using DVRUpgrade's InstantCake utility ....
