View Full Version : 2 drives, 1 bad drive, can I save programming?

Hi all,

I have an original Series 1 Tivo that I added a second drive to a few years back. One of those drives has pretty obviously gone bad (Tivo freezes after playing about 1 minute of any program including live TV), so I am getting ready to replace it.

My question is how does Tivo organize the file system? If I replace the bad drive, but keep the other drive, will the Tivo still be able to find the programs on the good drive? Does it matter if the bad drive is the primary or the secondary? I guess I'm basically wondering if the Tivo is configured with a striped RAID, or if the inode info is somehow on one drive for files on both drives, or will I be pleasantly surprised to see half of my shows still there when I get done.

Thanks,

The two drives are married. My guess is it would be nearly impossible.
