Right now I don't have a Tivo unit, but I'm in the process of deciding how I want to set everything up. I currently have regular digital cable through Comcast (San Francisco) and would like to switch to HD cable. However, I really don't feel like dropping a bunch of money on an S3 right now, but I still want the Tivo to record (not in HD of course). My question is this. If I switch to HD cable can I split the signal out of the wall, 1 going to the STB in my living room (HD), and the other into an S2 DT in my bedroom (standard cable)? And, since my PC is in the living room, can I watch recorded content straight from the S2 in the bedroom? Does this make sense, or is it not possible? Thanks in advance.

If you connect the S2 to your network you can get a Slingbox and easily view S2 on your PC. Without the Slingbox you can use the Tivo To Go feature to transfer recordings.
Or run a RF cable or composite/S-Video + audio cable from S2 to PC and use a RF remote like the option here (http://www.weaknees.com/rf-remote-details.php). There are also wireless transmitter/receiver units available.

maru_mari,
In the setup you outline the TiVo would only receive channels that are unscrambled and analog. For a Series 2 TiVo to record a digital channel (HD or SD) you need a cable box to convert it into an analog signal first.
Good Luck,

I think I have the solution.
I can run a Cat 5 cable into the bedroom to hook the S2 DT into my home network.
Record regular cable on the S2 DT (I don't need the digital/HD cable in the bedroom).
Install the Tivo Desktop app in the living room PC.
Browse the network and watch shows from the Tivo w/out any media conversions.
Enjoy HD cable in the living room, but not record it.
Would that work?

That should work fine. GL
