this episode sure did have a end of it all feel to it though huh?
I haven't paid any attention, how did it do in the ratings this season anyway?

Per Michael Ausiello's column last week, I was expecting to see a little more of a step towards who the mother might be.
It was still an awesome season finale, and if it does end, it went out on top.

Do people really still care who the mother is? Just enjoy the show.
BTW, I know the mother's maiden name. Tagged for the spoilerphobic:
It's 'MacGuffin'
She's scottish. :)

The last line of this episode was really well done. The episode as a whole was not among the best, but the last line more than made up for it. It did have a series finale feel to it, but yet also left open the possibility of ted suiting up next season.

This needs to come back next year.
So is it possible that we saw the mother in this episode? Or possibly last week's? Without realizing it?
The only two new women were the harp player (who we can assume is already married) and the brunette who Barney asked for her number "for the bride". H'mm.

Has it not yet been renewed? That totally sucks. I loved the last line, and thought the whole episode was hilarious. This show is great and I will be sad if it doesn't come back.

Well, I am glad they finally broke Ted and Robin up and it seemed to be a good way to do it for the rest of the show and keep her as a friend in the group.
I kind of agree the rest was not as good. Seemed to lack continuity from teh other wedding episodes. Why not pull out the "its for the bride/groom" line for the food. No way are they clearing their plates and no way would people not fall all over themselves to get them some more food if they asked one of the wait staff.
Hopefully the talk is just that and the show continues. I guess we will know tomorrow.

Well, there was also the blond bridesmaid with the pony tail. We saw her a couple time in the background, but just from the back or side. (Or at least she had on one of the purple bridesmaid's dresses.)
For example, when the camera pulls back from the table after Ted and Robin finally finish telling their story, we see that she has been sitting across the table, presumably listening the whole time. (And she was in the background of a couple more shots as well)
If she was just a totally random guest I would probably ignore her, but as a bridesmaid she presumably knows the group, and she was seated at the same table.
It could potentially be setting the scene for a later flashback the wedding showing the kids that "your mother" was there all along.

I'm so entirely disinterested in Ted finding his kids' mother. It seems obsessive and weird, even for a show called "How I Met Your Mother." But I like everything else about the show.
You know how people will always tell you to stop looking for that special person, and then once you stop looking, you open yourself up to finding them?
"Hey Ted, quit looking for your damn future wife!!" :)
I am glad to see the Ted & Robin thing over. It was wearing kinda thin, especially since we all know they don't end up together.
Do we really not know yet whether the show is being picked up again next season??

jgerry, no need to shout, Ted is doing just that! He wants to be a barnacle in the sea of love, so to speak.

I think they would (and should) not identify the mother until the series finale... after all, then dad's (Ted's) story will be done.

Uh, yeah, some of us do care. I enjoy the show, but I would like the answer.
Theoretically, shouldn't we get the answer sometime in the first half of the third season? If I recall correctly, Ted indicated in this year's New Year's episode something along the lines of "2007 would change my life forever" with a shot of his wedding. Or am I remembering this incorrectly.

Perhaps Marshall and Lily got married in April 2007 and the first episode next season takes place in May 2007...

There is absolutely reason to believe that. The show's pilot indicates that the kids were being told the story in 2030, and that the dad (Ted) was flashing back 25 years. That was 2 years ago (i.e., 2005) in real time. The New Year's episode I'm referring to took place around this past New Year's, implying that the next year would theoretically bring the reveal of the mother (unless Ted gets a divorce at some point, since the "big changes" they referred to showed Ted at his wedding). So it's safe to assume that the show occurs in real time, and while you could also be correct that the next season would pick up immediately following the wedding, that would take, what, 3 months away? So we should know by the end of the next season who the mother is, correct?
Unless the writers decide to go David Chase on us and say, "Yeah, I know, but I'm never going to tell."

They could have ended the series last night, by having Ted (at the end of the show) going back into the ballroom, bump into a woman (maybe spill a drink on her) and have the voice-over say "and that's how I met your mother".
If they had word that they were not coming back before airtime, they could have done somthing like that easily. The same goes for them coming back and then getting cancelled part way through the season. A short scene inserted at the last minute and we have closure. The mother is not as important as Ted's life leading up to the meeting.

I think they should of shown the 2 kids sitting on the couch aged a few years, like 15 and 17 and then say "Dad will you get to the point!!"

BTW, the proposal scene in the restaurant, that was real. The woman had no idea. (I thought the smattering of applause when she said yes was pretty amusing).
From Josh Radnor's blog (http://community.tvguide.com/blog/Celebrity-Blogs/Joshs-Himym-Blog/800043862):
Something amazingly cool happened. We had an actual marriage proposal on the set of How I Met Your Mother. I just e-mailed Matt Kuhn to get the details 'cause he's the one who set the whole thing up. Matt is a writer's assistant and one of the masterminds behind Barney's Blog. He also wrote the episode "Columns" this year. Rather than condense, I'm just gonna reprint part of Matt's e-mail. (I'm sure he won't mind. And direct quotes seem to be the theme of this blog.):
"The couple was Tim [Russo] and Jana [Rugan]. They live in Brooklyn. I'm friends with Tim's brother. He called me up and said his brother and his girlfriend were huge fans of the show and wanted to know if they could visit the set, etc. I said, 'Sure.' Then he asked if Tim could propose to Jana on the set. I went to [cocreators] Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas] to see if they were cool with it, and then we all realized we could actually work them into the finale. (They're such romantics.... And by 'they,' I mean Carter.)"
Here's the gist (and this is me, Josh, by the way, not Matt): In a rare romantic gesture (I kid), Ted takes Robin out to dinner for their one-year anniversary at the same restaurant where they had their first date, the place where Ted stole the blue French horn for Robin in the pilot. Two glasses of champagne are delivered to the table and at the bottom of Robin's glass is an engagement ring. Well, it turns out the champagne (and ring) were supposed to go to another table where a guy really was intending to propose to his girlfriend. (Was that a terrible sentence? I'm having trouble writing.) Anyway, so we shot a bunch of takes of this scene. Tim and Jana were extras in the restaurant, and everyone on set knew there was this couple who were about to really get engaged. (Everyone except Jana, of course, who's just trying not to make any noise as an extra.) So Pam Fryman, our unbelievably great director, calls "second pass," which was the code, but I was totally confused about what we were supposed to do and actually got scared I was going to ruin the whole thing. Anyway, our prop guys stealthily switched out the prop ring with the actual engagement ring, and we started the scene. At the moment when the other guy was supposed to stand up and announce the ring was his (as he'd done the previous eight or nine takes) Tim stood up and said, "It's mine." He came over to us, retrieved the ring, walked back to the table, got down on bended knee, and said, "Jana, will you marry me?" (Spoiler alert) She said, "Yes." She was sobbing. Actually, pretty much everyone started to cry. Not me, though. I'm tough. Well, maybe I got a little misty. But Stage 22 is pretty dusty, and as I'd mentioned in Blog #1, I have allergies. Damn dust.
BTW, Angie was the one who broke this story on the thread for last week's epsiode (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=5134754&&#post5134754). I just thought I'd repeat it here.

Happened at my wedding! Several years later my parents still mention that no one got any cake. DH and I laughed the whole way through this episode because that's pretty much what happened to us...

Lol, actually that was the most realistic part of the whole episode I thought. I even called my husband in to watch that part since it's a big memory of our reception. Someone had made chocolate covered strawberries specifically for us, but we never got one. We didn't get any food at all that night.
I kinda wondered about the blond that showed up in the front corner of a scene where Barney and Ted were talking (can't remember the exact part now)...thinking that she could be the mother (possibly the same blond that Jonathan mentioned earlier).
The last name change was one that we both cringed at, having just had that "discussion" with our dd. She has strange ideas, and we thought that was one of them, but she insisted that it's more and more common nowadays. We just assumed that she was clueless about what really is common, then they go and show that scene. Yikes!

OMG, I wondered what I was missing in that scene, it just didn't seem rehearsed or set for good sound, etc. Too realistic for the show and now I know why! Thanks for sharing this, I hadn't heard it before. Very cool!

I hope Jericho answers the questions in the ~9 episodes I haven't watched yet.
(Though even if it doesn't, I'll still watch them, as I've said in other threads questioning why people mass-nuke recordings of shows that have been cancelled... I watched all except possibly the pilot, of the black donnellys long after it was cancelled, and enjoyed it.)

Yeah, my friends really enjoyed that one. It's too bad-CBS has some QUALITY comedy on board right now that anything getting canceled would hurt.

By the way, when my younger sister got married in Israel, she and her husband never got to eat, either. They were too busy greeting all of the 250 guests (most of them our mother's very large family). The reception was buffet-style, and her guests polished off all of the food in less than 15 minutes.
So it does happen.
What was really funny was that my dad had set up his own open bar -- good-quality scotch, bourbon, vodka, gin, etc. One person had a double scotch. That was it. He had the same stuff for my brother's wedding four years later -- and managed to get rid of half a bottle of wine. But the food at my brother's wedding was gone in less than half an hour -- he and his bride didn't get to eat, either.
Now you know why I love to eat but not drink. It's genetic! :)

I hope that it's not the girl at the wedding with the "inappropriately short dress." She's too young for Ted.
Hmmm, for a second there I was thinking Robin was going to be pregnant, and they'd reboot the series and say that the Ted in the future is talking to his grandkids about the birth of their mother...
