I know this has been posted in the FNL picked up thread, but, given the interest in the show, I thought it might be nice to have a separate thread. NBC upfronts today announced it has been renewed and will air Friday Nights at 10 (9 Central).

Wouldn't the people interested in that show be out Friday nights watching the local football game? Well they do have TIVO:)!

For the 900th time this show is about football about as much as Grey's is about medicine!!! :p

I've never been to a Friday night football game in my life. In SW Connecticut at least, the high-school football teams play on weekend days - Saturdays if my memory serves right. I don't think the HS fields even have lights. Are day games a New England oddity?

This to me is a horrible idea. The show gets picked up for a second season by a miracle-and then gets shuffled off to a death sentence on Friday at 10pm? This sucks!

I may not watch FNL live -- but I'll watch it as soon as I can on Saturday!

The only thing I could see happening is if the show gets some Emmy nominations like ones for cast it will move to 9PM and Las Vegas will move to 10PM. If it gets nominated for best drama then they might move it and pair it with L&O SVU and if it won the emmy it would definetly get paired with SVU.

The show takes place in Texas. The title of the show is most appropriate.

I realize that some high schools play Friday night football and, so, I wasn't commenting on the show's title, but on the idea that the fans will be busy watching football on Friday nights and won't be home to watch the show. I doubt that's true in most of the country, but really have little evidence beyond my CT experience.

In both states that I have lived plus the neighboring states, all games are played on friday nights except playoffs etc. This is in the Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota area

Traditionally, high school games are played on Friday nights, and Saturday is for college games.
Moving FNL to Friday is a horrible move, regardless of its ties to football, Friday night is not a slot that any show wants.

You're right. It looks like we are going to get season #2 and that's it. Why renew it at all?

Well let's find out which is the oddity, Friday night for high school football, or non-Friday nights :) I'll put forward that Missouri and Arkansas play on Friday nights. I'm pretty sure Oklahoma and Kansas are the same, but I'm not completely positive

There are successful shows on Fridays now... CBS's "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numbers" have been both airing on Fridays for a couple of seasons. (Don't know if they've been picked up, though.)

"Dallas" did okay on Fridays.

FNL was recorded on my DVD burner, due to conflicts with my 2 tivos, so this is good news for me. And being on Friday nights, I think the networks are a little more lenient on viewer numbers.

Not really - a lot of games in California are on Saturday afternoons. I don't think there are any schools in San Francisco that have lights for football - then again, some schools barely have enough room for a football field (seriously, there's one school where one set of goal posts is about three feet in front of a building's exterior wall).
As for people not being home on Fridays at 10:00, if it's that much of a problem, NBC can show instant repeats in one of the Saturday time slots - that's why they're there.
