View Full Version : TiVo can't escape Comcast Channel 1

Like everyone else's (??), my Comcast box has the On-demand programming menu on channel 1. I've discovered that it's easy to enter channel 1 using the TiVo remote but exiting channel 1 requires a "Channel Up" command from the cable remote, and entering a channel number has no effect.

Since the TiVo blaster always sends channel numbers and never sends a pure channel up or channel down, this means that a user can't exit On-demand using the TiVo remote, and worse, the TiVo can't change the channel to record a show if the box is left on Channel 1.

Does anyone know of a good workaround? I'm forced to be the bad guy and have banned the use of on-Demand (DW enjoys watching the free movies) since about every week or so some shows get missed when the box doesn't get switched back to real TV.

You can always remember to change the channel after watching on-demand, or you can set a repeating "VCR Timer" on the cable box for some random channel at 3 AM.

Get a separate box for the DW to watch the OnDemand on.

Yeah, like that's gonna happen. :)

I removed OnDemand from the TiVo Channel list so at least it's not possible to channel-down into Channel 1 using the TiVo remote.
