I have a DRT-800. I want to "off load" some recorded movies to DVD for viewing elsewhere and at other times. But, my little 2 hour movie will require 3 discs???? So, do I need a special type of DVD? Can I use one that can be recorded over and over? Is the recording quality too high? Is there anything else I need to know?

The DVD recorders only support single layer media (4.7GB/disk).
Not sure how your 2 hour movie needs 3 disks. Even at Best quality, it should only take 2 disks unless it's even slightly over 2 hours.
Best = 1 hour / DVD
High = 2 hour / DVD
Good = 4 hour / DVD
Basic = 6 hour / DVD
I use High quality for my recordings so can fit most movies on 2 disks, even if they run over 2 hours. IMHO, Good or Basic are not watchable (analog cable input).

Mercy... You're kidding right? I'm looking at getting an upgraded box to hold sporting events and thought it might be neat to have one with the DVD writer in it. So if I want to record a sporting event for posterity, it might take 4 DVDs to watch the event again later (recorded at best quality)?
Wow... Maybe getting the new software to work on my Mac IS a better idea...Of course, that assumes that I can burn at higher rates on that drive... Hmmmm...

Sadly, he/she isn't kidding. I found this out yesterday after buying a spindle of DVD Recordable discs. Apparently my 3 hour wrestling PPVs (that seem be pretty high friggin' quality...) would take 3 seperate discs (almost 4 since I recorded them a little over to compensate for the occasional overruns) to record. Amazing. Now I'm left to wonder...is there a way to burn them to an external DVD recorder? And would the times be any better? 3 discs for one PPV...with no ability that I can see to differentiate where it cuts off...absurd.

You could use TiVotoGo to transfer to a PC, then use a program such as VideoReDo to edit/cut commercials. Follw that by burning to DVD using a program like Nero. Go to the TiVotoGo forum for information on options.
I suppose you could get an external DVD recorder and use the "Save to VCR" option on the TiVo, but that would degrade quality, as you'd be converting to analog and then back to digital.
