I found this on DBS Talk and figured I'd cross post it here. Depending on how things pan out this could have some really big implications for TIVO. Lets face it if TIVO loses its patents I don't think there is enough gas in the engine to keep it going. With Direct TV holding a ton of Tivo customers and already moving to their own DVR you might see more companies like Comcast dump their Tivo agreements at the earliest convenience.

Worst still will be the door opening of currently exclusive TIVO features driving more competition into a market that is already very difficult for Tivo. I don't believe they've made a profit yet I can't imagine things getting any better either.

I also expect that this ruling changes things pretty significantly in the Echostar vs Tivo case. I'm not sure this bodes very well for Tivo in the slightest.

I'm not sure this bodes very well for Tivo in the slightest.I don't see any relevance at all in the recent decision. The patents involved here are not the least bit "obvious."

People who have motivations to hope that Tivo suffers ill, in terms of things we are not allowed to discuss in this forum, like the price of certain objects related to Tivo and its competitors that are available for purchase in exchanges, or gambling that the price of the Tivo-related objects will decline, are promoting your point of view with considerable relish over the past few days. Also people who just plain don't like Tivo, or have some tie-in to its competitors.

But if you look at the objective writings of professionals in the field buying and selling these objects we are not allowed to discuss on this forum, they also see no relevance.

Discussed already in the Coverage of TiVo/Echostar trial (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=5122347&&#post5122347) thread

the patents TiVo is defending on appeal after winning a willful infringement verdict against Echostar are not just a high level record onto hard drive patent (duh)

but a specific piece of technology within a TiVo DVR that does the bulk of the work efficiently and thus allow for a low end processor and a little memory to do a lot. Many people simply think the patent is for the obvious parts of a DVR when it is in fact not about just that at all.

"If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace. John Lennon"

Hi,
When and where did John Lennon ever say this?? I have read many Biographys and have viewed every Tape that I am aware of, (Plus Many Bootlegs) and I have never seen or even Heard that comment. It's not even Genious enough for someone like him to even say!
When he wrote "Give Peace a Chance" I doubt he was talking about TV Sets! LOL

Don't worry, things will change totally in the next couple of Years!!
Hard Drives will be a thing of the Past, as items similar to Memory Sticks are already being placed and Tested in Computers alone. And totally New Systems have already been created that are Better than Tivo by a number of Companies, so Tivo is living on Borrowed Time as far as being the only Kid on the Block!

And how is this way off topic?? You made the statement!
Damn, you try to be nice, I even threw in an LOL so he would know I was not debating with him, only asking a simple question. But I guess he is just another "Expert" who THINKS he is Better than all of us "Idiots"!!

would you please take some time to learn how to use a forum.

That is my digital signature that is in every single post I make.
Telling you google will bring up pages of sites that attribute the quote to John Lennon seems to back it up.

aside from the above - going into a thread someone else started and asking a question that has absolutely no relevance to anything about the thread at all is considered very rude and I try and avoid it.

Everytime I have ever asked a question, some Wise Ass always tries to make you look likwe a fool! Screw this!Google results (http://www.google.com/search?q=If+everyone+demanded+peace+instead+of+another+telev ision+set%2C+then+there%27d+be+peace.+John+Lennon+&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7RNWI)

Ps. I don't think John lennon would have said "Screw This"

Now my signature profile does not mean that I am commenting on my TiVo's - I'm only posting this you don't have to do "all that labor" to look up a quote via google.
