I've been chomping at the bit to get MP4's to transfer to my Tivo's. I have the upgrade key on the latest desktop 2.4 (updated this afternoon) and I have quicktime installed on the server that will holds my MP4s & mpg's.

I have cleaned out the TIVO and can transfer mpg's w/o trouble. When attempting to transfer the mp4's, an error is logged stating that the mp4 was deleted because the space was needed. Kind of a screwy error message since (1) that indicates the mp4 (800meg) was transferred (not in the 20 seconds that have transpired) and then deleted; (2) I'm not getting the real *accurate* cause for transfer failure.

Suggestions?? Bigger hammer??? TIVO reboot didn't fix it, but I do have a chainsaw.... ;)

First off you have to have the TiVo Desktop Plus upgrade for this feature to work. Assuming you do, then the next step would be to confirm that the files you're trying to transfer actually play in QuickTime. TiVo basically uses a wrapper around QuickTime to transcode the files to the proper MPEG2 format. If the files don't play in QuickTime then that process fails. If they work in QuickTime but not for the TiVo, then you're going to have to dig a little deeper. I'd suggest you get a copy of GraphEdit and learn how to use it. All of TiVo's transcoding stuff is done in DirectShow. If you can figure out how it works and can reproduce the problem then you might be able to fix it by installing/uninstalling certain filters. Although that process is not for the fait of heart, and much to complicated for me to explain here. So if you're not a computer geek willing to put in the time to figure it all out, then you're SOL.
