I'm wondering if there's a way I can connect to my Tivo thru the Slingbox as a passthru device for MRV and accessing TWP. Or will I need another ethernet cable that bypasses the Slingbox and goes directly into my DTivo?

A Slingbox basically functions as a remote viewer, and you see in Slingplayer exactly what you would see on a TV. You would not see TWP on a TV connected to the TiVo. In other words, the answer to your question is "no," and you need a compatible network interface to use TWP.
With a Slingbox connected to a TiVo, you can not only browse recordings on its drive, but recordings on other DVRs if MRV is enabled...the same thing you could do with a TV.

My set up is as follows, hopefully this clears it up for you.
Downstairs: Tivo, zippered for MRV, ethernet connection
upstairs: tivo, zippered for MRV, ethernet connection, Slingbox, 2nd ethernet connection
And then with GoToMyDVR (auto with new zipper) I can change recordings on both tivos remotely. Although I could still manage the upstairs one through the Slingbox.
Works like a charm for my fiancee who has been in Cambridge, England all year.
