Doesn't seem like I can find any software that will play the DVDs I burned from my TiVo. :( We are leaving on a long trip on Sat and I wanted a couple DVDs along with my 3yr old daughter's favorite shows, to keep her occupied on a really long flight.

Has anyone succesfully done this? What software did you use to read the DVD-R format discs that TiVo records? Or are we missing some TiVo setting that records in a format that can be played on the computer?

So far I've checked out WinDVD, Inter-something, PowerDVD, Vista Media Center and others via web search -- none of them list DVD-R as a format they will read. :(

We're running Vista Home Premium on a brand-new high-powered HP notebook.

Suggestions?

The DVD's the Tivo units burn are regular DVD-Video format, the media is DVD-R. In order to play the DVD's you need a DVD drive that can read DVD-R media (pretty much any drive manufactured in the last 5 years) and software that can play DVD-Video (any software that can play shop bought Video DVD's)

So I think any of the software you mention will work.

Windows Media Player will play DVDs. And if you want something with a smaller footprint, use VLC (Video Lan Client).

If you put the DVD in your laptop and open it through Windows Explorer, can you see the VIDEO_TS folder and the files in it?

I've never had a problem playing DVDs made in my TX20 on my notebook, or even in our cheap little Polaroid portable DVD player.
