Trying to set up the 880 for my father and I hit a snag for the 30 Second Skip on his 1st Gen Tivo (I know, I know, but he has Lifetime subscription and he upgraded the hard drive) .
I was able to program in the skip just fine, only when I switch functions (ie from Tivo viewing to DVD) and return to Tivo the 30 second skip no longer works and must be reprogrammed. Am I missing something in the programing? Or is this a quirk in the system?
Thanks

I'm not sure what the problem is, but it doesn't matter what remote is used to reprogram the TiVo. If the 30s skip is getting reset then the TiVo is being restarted. Or have you set up a macro on the 880 to enter the sequence? If you have, then somehow that macro is running again and therefore toggling the 30s skip functionality. The only time you need to enter the sequence for 30s skip is after a restart.

When you enter the code for 30 ss, you are telling the Tivo how to respond to that particular button press. You are not in any way programming the remote to send a different signal. the only way to lose the 30 ss is to reenter the code or restart the Tivo. It doesn't just go away.

the tivo never gets shut off,
the only programing that is happening is select-play-select3-0-select

That sequence toggles the 30 second skip.

Do it once, it turns it on, do it again, it turns it off.

If you are doing that sequence every time you switch to the TiVo activity, you are toggling it.

If you feel the need to have a macro for it, set up a seperate activity and call it 30 second skip, then if the TiVo does reboot, all your father will have to do is run that activity, then watch TiVo.

No need to set up a separate Activity for it. For the Tivo device, I simply had the 880 "learn" the S-P-S-30-S sequence from the tivo remote and named it "Set up 30". Then I added that custom button to the Tivo Activity. Any time the tivo is rebooted, I just go to the Tivo Activity on the 880 and hit that button (once).

Interesting because on my 860 if you go to Device, Set Top Box, 30 sec skip is already there in the remote window.

Coincidentally, I was busy last night trying to get my 880 to learn this keypress sequence and had no luck. I used "raw" mode and was working in a darkened room. No combination of near/far inter-remote distance or fast/slow keypress speed worked to get a good capture.

Any hints on how you got this to work?

Thanks.

One of my Tivos will not accept the code from my Harmony remote, I have to use a TiVo peanut to enter the code.
