I have two tivos. They are networked. One is in the basement where there is no Satellite. One is in the bedroom where there is. Do I need to register the one in the basement in order to transfer shows via the network?

Yes. MRV only works with a subscription. This has not changed since MRV was introduced.

You can't really do much of anything with the TiVo if it doesn't have a subscription.
