Tonight was the last straw with this POS HR20-700 from DirecTV. HD recording tonight was blank.. as were some of our shows this weekend.

Do we have anyone on these boards who live in Saint Louis who have Charter and a Series 3? I'm wondering what their experiences have been and if they have any suggestions.

Thanks!

I'm with Charter, but not St. Louis so I can't really help you specifically, but your best bet would be to go through the Charter cable card thread in the "Official Cable Card" sticky thread at the top of the thread list.

My experience with Charter with the cable cards so far has been great, I was my installers first S3 hookups (these were back in Sept06) took a little while (most of which was him waiting on hold and then explaining to the person on the other end of the line what he wanted them to do) but after that it has been flawless. I did have one of my S3s go bad a while back (it had started rebooting randomly and often, sometimes only minutes apart) but TiVo got that taken care of very quickly and easily, swapped my cablecards when the new S3 arrived (my area apparently isn't pairing them) and all has been perfect since. Have even ordered PPV through the phone and the regular charter 800 number operators took care of me no problem.

But of course you mileage may vary on a different headend.

In St. Louis, on Charter and a S3 ... do it!

The cable card install was a bit drawn out, but worked perfectly by the time the installer left.

It works fine for me. I get partial and zero length recordings but I don't know if that's specifically a Charter problem. I do think Charter needs to be smacked for ruining my shows with a few too many EBS alerts (I think they must be responsible for some of the partials) but that doesn't mean the service itself doesn't workk.

I *am* still angry that I have an ugly antenna sitting on one of my speakers due to Charter arrogantly deciding I don't need to be able to see CSI in HD and I've complained about it repeatedly, however. So if you care about CBS HD around here, Charter doesn't care about you.

(Note to Charter: "We gave you THIS HD channel! Isn't that greatl!?!?!" is NOT a valid response to customers demanding you restore a specific service that you ripped away from them. Especially when you raised their rates for this "courtesy").

I have a S3 and Charter in St. Louis and once you get past the installation hassles, it's a breeze. The only problem I ever had was when KMOV-DT disappeared from the lineup while I was on vacation in January--and the lack of KMOV doesn't bother me much, because my Silver Sensor indoor antenna picks it up fine OTA.

I haven't experienced many partial/zero-length recordings (maybe one or two in the whole time I've owned my S3).
