I bought my S3 in Dec/2006. My cable provider is TimeWarner in Chapel Hill, NC. The initial installation of the two cable cards was somewhat painless. In February we lost signal to the cards and a simple reset from the cable provider seemed to fix the problem. Now in late April we turned on the TV one day and there was no cable signal at all. Asked TW to reset the signal to the box and that didn't fix it this time. Also rebooted the Tivo box. Still nothing. Had the cable guys come out and they deleted the cablecard info out of their company computer system and then re-installed the cablecards one at a time. The cablecard CP screen shows that the CP Auth signal was received and the EMM count goes to 100+, yet when I go back to Tivo Central it shows this "Searching for channels" screen with a counter of channels always at 0. It never goes beyond this.

So both Tivo and TW think it's the cablecards, though I'm surprised that both cards went bad at once. So the cable guy comes out again with 1 new card (right out of the box). This one would only initialize to an EMM count of 2 and never goes higher. Again, no tv signal. So my next appointment is tomorrow where they plan to bring out several new cablecards.

So my questions are:

- Does this seem odd to anyone else that 2 working cards would both quit at once?
- Is it usually this difficult to find 2 working cablecards?
- Would I be any better off going with DirectTV (in terms of Tivo support) or do they also have cablecard issues?

The TW guys are pretty much clueless as to what is going on with the Tivo box, and if they can't get it to work tomorrow I'm not sure where to go next.
