View Full Version : R10 not getting remote signal

Our almost 2 year old R10 is acting up. All of a sudden, it won't accept any signal via the remote (peanut)

Now, it's NOT the remote. I have another older Hughes DTivo for which the R10's black peanut works fine, as well as the Hughes universal remote does not work with the R10...

But it's RANDOMLY and could last a good 20-30 minutes. All of a sudden, it responds perfectly fine !

I did a standby and a power off and reboot. Batteries are fresh and also have drained the remote's power (installed backwards and pressed buttons for a while).

I could think of IR interference, but the R10 is on a different room and no other remote controllable items there.

What blows is that at this point, first D* will want me to do a reset everything, followed by a replacement.

I know when it works, the power LED turns orange (from green). When it doesn't work, LED doesn't change.

Note also that when the R10 doesn't work via the remote, the buttons on the front panel work fine, so the R10 is not locked or hung. And the power and volume buttons work fine with the TV.

And yes, it's also not an issue of the SAT/TV switch...

The IR receiver is not working properly ? Where's the sensor on the R10 ?

TIA...

I think it's behind the opaque plastic "button" in the center of the front panel keypad ....

Thanks - that's what I thought.. I guess I'm going to have to prop it open to see if there's dust collected or something.

It doesn't make any sense. I'll hate having to do a clear and delete everything... Worse though would be to have to replace it. I'm not on contract or anything and did not want to jump to get an HD box just yet (The Hughes is on the primary HD TV) as most content we watch is still SD or DVDs... I mean, if I would replace the box, I'll push for an HD as I would have to get a 2 year commitment...
