Can I MRV with free service?

Hi, I have two series 2 Tivos with just the free lifetime service, no tivo plus... and I want to go from landline to wifi and have the usb network adapter thingies to plug in... but I'm wondering if I will be able to use the MRV feature, also to use my computer to access my tivo guides and stuff. I'm lost. Please help, or tell me where to read in order to be "enlightened". Thanks!!!

"free lifetime service" is "TiVo Basic".

MRV does not work, not sure about network connectivity for updates.

You can hack both units with the Zipper or just the superpatch to enable MRV without the Tivo service. Depending on the models you have you may have to have the PROM modded in order to hack them.

Depending on the models you have you may have to have the PROM modded in order to hack them.I don't believe that's accurate since these are Standalones (not DTivos). Hacking/Superpatch on the latest SA software releases will NOT enable MRV on Tivo "Basic" or unsubbed units. MRV is specifically a feature of Tivo "Plus" (i.e, full sub) and requires naming the units at Tivo.com. Enlighten me if I'm wrong - PM if you want take this off-line.

You are correct. SA TiVo units cannot be "Zippered"

It needs subbed to do MRV. If you could patch the app to enable MRV and transfers without a sub, that would be theft of service, since you can pay for those features.

You can get updates from the network with just TiVo Basic though.
