I've had my Humax DRT-400 hooked up to a 32" LCD HDTV via Component cables for awhile now, but just recently discovered the option to switch from Interlaced to Progressive while digging around in the menus.

Imagine my surprise when switching to Progressive made the picture much worse! Everything was blurry and jittery. Switching back to Interlaced and it sharpened right up. I tried it back and forth a few times, reattaching and tightening the cables, with no change.

This is baffling to me because with my old set up (540-series S2 and Panasonic DVD player), Progressive looked much better than Interlaced. Same TV, same cables, same connection.

I've never (crossing fingers) had any other problems with this Humax, and really, staying on Interlaced is OK, but this has me puzzled. Any thoughts?

I've noticed the same thing on my DRT400 since day one. I tried setting it up on progressive, but the picture was much worse, so I gave up and never asked the forum. Yes, my TV does support it. Anyone else with this problem and a solution?

Most HD TV have much better deinterlacers than the Humax or for that matter most DVD players, the signal from a DVD is native 480I so your best bet is to feed the 480I into your HD TV and let the TV do the deinterlacing as it will do a better job. My manual on my HD TV told me to connect that way and let the HDTV do the rest, always feed the best unadulterated signal into the HDTV and you will get the best results.

i've recently noticed this option upon rebooting, and have always chosen progressive as i thought that it would be the better choice. however, i have not tried interlaced, so i cannot compare but my PQ is fine on a sharp aquos via component cables. just curious what this option is really for?
