Just connecting the HDMI cable does not shut off the component output. The HDMI has to be active. Some TVs (Sony is one) disable the HDMI port if the TV is not set to that output. I have two Sony TVs connected to one HR10-250, one using component and the other using HDMI. If the TV with the HDMI connection is viewing the HR10-250, then the other TV with the component connection sees nothing. Once the TV with the HDMI connection is changed to any input other than the HDMI input, the TV with the component connection can view the HR10-250 output.
Thanks, I meant active, is it the same with the Tivo Series 3/cable card HD Tivo?

The S3 has all of the outputs active at the same time.

The S3 has all of the outputs active at the same time.Same with the D* HR20-700. Not a Tivo-based DVR, however. /steve
