okay, this is strange and i've not seen this problem before. we were watching a program and i was FFing through a commercial and suddenly it skipped to the end of the program where it was still recording.
i assumed i had hit the little arrow button somehow, backed up to where we had been watching, and tried again. at the same point it did it again! and then a third time. when i didn't FF through the commerical it was fine.
weird.

I have never seen this with FF, but have seen it with REW a few times. Definitely some sort of software glitch.

I know this is getting old, but it does fix many weird problems.
Do a restart. :)

I've had very similar experiences recently. I'm not sure if the shows were still recording, but several times (before the 8.3 update), I'd be Fast Forwarding through a commercial and suddenly ended up near the end of the recording. It wasn't like I was still hitting buttons. I'd hit the FF twice and watch the current commercials speed by, then I'd notice I was speeding through a different part of the show. I think the last time it happened, I had just done (mere hours earlier) a restart. I'm beginning to wonder if my drive is starting to go bad.

It happened again last night. I was back in the buffer on Live TV. The TiVo wasn't recording anything. At 8:53, I hit FF twice to get through the commercial. After some fast forwarding, I suddenly noticed I was in the middle of the show (at about the 9:03 point - but, that wasn't the end of the buffer). I hit the Play button to return to normal speed, and then moved back about 5 minutes to where the show resumed from the commercials I was fast forwarding through. I also went back to my FF start point and re-did the FF. It worked fine. I hit no buttons on the remote while fast forwarding. I saw no apparent artifacts on the screen to indicated bad data/reception.
BTW: With at least one of the earlier occurrences, the TiVo jumped so far forward that it was fast forwarding through the NEXT set of commercials. I caught it because it seemed like I was fast forwarding forever and the commercials were never stopping.

I pulled the drive and ran the manufacturer's diagnostics on it. It came back with four errors (2 unrecoverable). I'm re-imaging a new drive now. If the problem persists with the new drive, I'll post back.

weird.
I've had this happen at various times on my multiple TIVOs. I just live with it.

Do a restart. :)You sound like our IT helpdesk..."Hey, my PC is messed up with blah blah....what should I do?"....."Reboot"....ugh....

This is true, but it fixes many weird problems with TiVos.
Don't scoff at reboots until you've tried it. :D

This sounds like just a new form of an old bug that has plaqued the last few updates. Last I heard, the TiVo guys hadn't yet figured out what causes it, so are still not able to fix it.
