I'm not sure TIVO is for me, way way too many wrong channels being recored (going on 6 months now). Channel line ups changing, etc, etc, etc...........Now tonight guess what happened!
The one channel I wanted to TIVO was a black screen! thats all I got! So I went to another TV in the house to check TW cable & the program WAS ON! SO, I go back to TIVO & check again. Guess What! Unbelievable! The one and only one channel I want to TIVO for my wife will not come in, I mean black screen! So I channel up and down & recieve all other channels! Now is that weird or what!! I'm taking that as a sign to quit TIVO.

If this has been going on for 6 months, you sure have a lot of patience.

After about a week, I would have called DTV and made sure I had the proper software version etc. Then swap out the unit. Maybe bad hard-drive.

It's called trouble-shooting. Just keep trying things until you get it right....

But don't give up on Tivo. Once it's working right you'll love it.

What happens after you do a reboot?

Are you hooked up thru a cable box and then to the TiVo?
-or-
Is the cable running from the wall to the TiVo box only?

I have one of my TiVo's hooked up to cable only and another hooked up to a cable box.

TiVo 1) In my area channel 54 is FoxNews with the TiVo box & cable only

TiVo 2) The one TiVo that goes thru the cable box is channel 62 FoxNews.

I have the same cable provider - I use 2 different channel lineups - I suspect that you should re-run guided setup - this should take care of your problem.

If you are using just the TiVo box then some shows, like HBO might not work. I get CineMax on channel 75, Showtime on 76, TMC on 77 with the cable box & TiVo 2- If I use TiVo 1 without the cablebox I do not get those channels. They are black, like yours.

Re-running guided setup should really help you out if you go into this with an open mind - you will not loose any recordings if you re-run guided setup - just don't hit the "clear and delete everything" option!

Do you have Comcast? Minneapolis?

This same thing has happened to me. I don't get it. When tivo-ing try putting the tv on the channel that you are recording... that works for me. (Which is then pointless because I cant watch anything else). Either I can record a channel and not watch anything else. Or I can not record a channel and be able to watch anything. I'm starting to think its the cable company...

Ok thanks, I will run guided set up again (how many times must I do this in a month??)
It seems I have been doing this 2-5 times a month. Meaning I lose 2-5 programs a month. When thats 3/4 of all I watch a month, its very upsetting!!
I have a splitter from the wall:
One goes to TIVO box
One goes to TV (so my wife can watch regular TV when she wants, just hit the game button and we are watching live TV & TIVO still records whatever is schedualed ~I WISH!~)
I have TWC
Nothing changed after a restart.
Thanks again for the moral support, my patience is running away from me here on this one.

Have you tried looking at your Channel List? The list of the channels that your TiVo receives can be found by going to TiVo Central -->Messages&Settings -->Settings --> Channels.

Look to see if the channel in question is checked or not. If it is unchecked, check the box and see if that helps.
