I just upgraded to Dish Network HD. I set up my series 2 tivo on it this afternoon and noticed a big problem.

Some of the channels that have HD also have the SD channel on the same number. For example, Discovery Channel SD is on 182, Discovery HD is on channel 182. programming is different. for example, right now, deadliest catch (season passed) is on the SD discovery 182, Rides is on the HD 182. so i was just watching it today to make sure the channels changed correctly

6pm came and the tivo sent the channel to 182 (correct), however the HD Discovery channel came up and it started recording Rides. I hit channel down and it went to the other 182 discovery channel showing deadliest catch. so it's recording correctly now.

how am i supposed to get the tivo to turn to the correct channel 182? what i've found is that if i'm on channel 181 and i hit channel up, it goes to the sd discovery channel 182. i hit channel up again, it goes to the hd discovery channel 182. i hit channel up again it goes to channel 183. If i hit 182 on the remote, it goes to the discovery HD channel.

i also noticed that ESPN, A&E also have to channels on the same channel number.

wow, this is confusing. so any help will be much appreciated.

Did you re-run guided setup to select your source and programming?

There may be info in this thread about using whatever Dish HD box you have.

yeah, i re-ran the setup. i'm beginning to think it's a problem with the dish programming. when i'm not tivo'ing and on my dish remote, i hit 182, it goes to the discovery hd channel. why would dish assign two different channels (i know they're both discovery, but there's different programming on each channel) to the same channel number? i don't get it. maybe there's a setting in the dish receiver that i can split the channels off.

btw, the receiver is vip 211, i didn't see it in the faq.

You should ask any Dish vip211 receiver specific questions on this forum.

It seems the 211 has a few problems.

I think the problem here has to do with two different channels being assigned (by SOMEONE) with the same channel number.

If you want to use your DISH remote to get to either DISCOVERY HD or the SD Discovery Channel, what channel numbers do you punch in?

There's no way you can punch in the number 182 on the remote, and control which one you'll get to.

I have to assume those two channels are actually on two different channel numbers, and someone's got a channel lineup wrong somewhere.

Sounds very much like a TRIBUNE or TiVo lineup problem.

Again, what is your ACTUAL channel lineup, and where does the "they're both on 182!" thing come from?

I posted the same problem back on the 15th of this month and still don't know how to solve the problem. For me, I am trying to record something on NBC Channel 13. Well, I have two channel 13's. If you type in "13" you are sent to the same channel 13 each time but if you toggle one channel down then you get the other channel 13. This wasn't a problem until a few weeks ago. I don't know what changed.

Was this problem ever solved? I'm seeing the same problem on a 222...

Maybe the 222 forum can help.
