Hi,

I had Desktop 2.3 and suddenly it started telling me that I didn't have a TiVo connected to my network. That's strange since the Series 2 is working perfectly well using a wireless network adapter. I just upgraded to Desktop 2.4 hoping it would fix the problem. It didn't. I get the dreaded "beacon service not running" error. Also, TiVo can no longer find my pictures on my computer. I reinstalled the Media Access Key, even though it says "Media Access Key has been set. My computer is a new HP laptop with 1Gb of RAM running XP Media Center. I rebooted but it didn't fix a thing.

Suggestions? Thanks.

1. Take a look at your firewall, and make sure that the beacon service is permitted. Also, look for any firewall programs that you may have used in the past. When I switched from Sygate to Norton, Sygate still was giving me access problems until I uninstalled the program.

2. Is there a TiVo guy logo on your system tray (next to the clock)? When you scroll over the Tivo logo mine says "Tivo Desktop: Server on". Try a right click and then Resume Server.

I'm running 2.4 and it stopped working today (after my service update completed overnight). I'm guessing the 2 events aren't a coincidence...

I noticed it with multi-room viewing after the upgrade. A hard-reboot of the TiVo restored visibility. Now though, I'm seeing lots a pixelation and channel changing issues...
