First let me start with that this is the second time I've done a HD upgrade. I have a 540080 unit that I replaced the original HD with a 300GB HD

Now, 2 weeks ago I bought a 240080 unit off of eBay. After waiting for everything to get transferred (unit and MAK) and updated (to ver 8.3), I performed an upgrade last nite to replace the the original HD with a Seagate DB35.3 500GB HD. I used the WeaKnees LBA boot image and ran the mfsbackup/restore command. About 13GB of data was transferred to the new HD (no saved programs , just SW, setting, etc.) and the command completed successfully.

When I re-started the unit I got the "Powering On" grey screen, then the Tivo Screen (Almost there........), then a green screen of death. The green screen said that there was a problem with the Tivo unit, that it would take up to 3 hrs to repair, and don't power down until it was completed. Well, after 30 sec of the green screen, the unit reboots and the process repeats itself.

So... any ideas as to what happened and what do I do next? Are there HD compatability issues that I need to know about? I'm clueless as what to do next.

Thanks.

Could be a bad image. Try to re-image the drive again from scratch. I have had this in the past and I imaged again and all was well.

Did you use the WeaKnees instructions also?

Your mfsrestore command should of had an -s 127 and -r 4 in it.

The -r 4 is very important with a drive that size so is the -s 127

The PC I used to do upgrade has been shutdown, so I don't have the command history. I will try again in a couple of hours making sure the -r 4 argument is there. I hope that's the issue.

It worked this time around. Must of fat-fingered something. Thanks for the help.

Congratulations, how many hours did you get with the DB35.3 500GB drive?

160 hrs for Best to 576 hrs for Basic. Not too bad.
