Confused about TiVo Desktop 2.4 & "Plus"

Can someone please tell me if the downloadable TiVo desktop 2.4 (beta) is capable of (or will be) playing the video formats it says it's capable of playing once those video formats are placed in the appropriate computer folder?

I'm confused because I've read several messages from users that tend to indicate that to play the video formats, you must upgrade to the "Plus" version...YET, when I read about what the "Plus" version does, it seems to indicate that the only real use for the "Plus" is to allow users to port their videos to ipods and such....doesn't say that it's required to watch those same video formats through your TiVo.

Can someone please clarify, do I need "Plus" to view the WMA, MPG, etc. on my TiVo- or do I need "Plus" only to save those videos to a portable device?

It's both ... if you want the extra transcoding features (either way ... to portable device or back to TiVo) you'll need a Plus key.

To use the web video transfer feature, you need:

• TiVo Desktop version 2.4 with a valid TiVo Desktop 2.3 Plus upgrade key. Visit tivo.com/desktop to purchase an upgrade key if you don't have one already.
