While searching for recordings to transfer I receive the message “No DVR’s found on network”. I am running tivo desktop 2.3a and have a Series 2dt dvr with the new 8.3 update. My tivo can see the pc (music and pictures) and my pc can see my tivo. I can log in from the pc by using its ip address but still can not see the dvr under tivo desktop. I have restarted the tivo, computer and all of the networking equipment… nothing. When running a network connection test from the tivo it comes back successful. I feel it has something to do with the new 8.3 service update, as I have not received any of my auto transfers since then.
Any one else have any ideas?
thanks

Try re-entering your Media Access Key (File Menu --> Enter Media Access Key).

I tried it and it didn't work. I did however, upgrade my tivo desktop from 2.3a to 2.4 and it is now functioning properly.

I have had this same problem with Tivo Desktop, both before and *after* the 8.3 update. I have just changed my network settings to put the Tivo (Series 2 540) on a *fixed* IP address instead of DHCP. I sure hope this solves the problem.

I got the update last night, coupled with 2.4 and we subscribe to Tivo to Go Plus. The 2 Tivo's we have can see each other and share programs, and the network software sees the 2 Tivos on the network. The Tivo's connect just fine to get programming updates, but Desktop 2.4 ]can't find any Tivo's on the network' to quote the message it puts out. Any ideas what the block is?
Thanks

Just found out that Windows Firewall was the culprit. I disabled it, and Desktop found the 2 Tivo's right away. I selected them as the only Tivo's to allow to connect, re-enabled the firewall, and now everything works fine.

I'm still having the problem, but not 100% of the time. Sometimes when I "Pick recordings to Transfer" Tivo Desktop sees the Tivo, generates the list of recordings on the Tivo and I can start my transfer fine. Often, while the transfer is taking place, Tivo Desktop somehow loses its ability to "see" the Tivo and *while* the transfer is still happening tells me there are no DVRs on the network.
Other times Tivo Desktop does not see the Tivo so I cannot start a transfer, *even though* from the PC I can see the Tivo by navigating to its IP address, I can see the Now Playing list on the Tivo by going in via https://{IP addr} then typing tivo and my Media Access Key for a password, and from the Tivo's Now Playing list I can see the Tivo Recordings list on the PC.
This is a hardwired network, and since the Tivo and the PC can both see each other *besides* through Tivo Desktop, it sure seems like a problem specifically with Tivo Desktop.
This has all behaved the same way before and after the 8.3 update and before and after being on TD 2.3a then TD 2.4plus

Sounds like bad cabling in the network, a faulty router, bad ethernet card, etc. Also, did you experiment with turning off any firewall software? Maybe even a setting in the router. As I mentioned, I selected the option to 'only' connect to the 2 tivos I have and not just anything connected to my network. Hope it helps.

Skimark:
I don't see how the problem could be cabling, router etc. The Tivo and PC can see each other just fine 100% of the time *except* through Tivo Desktop 2.4plus (or 2.3a) The message "No Tivo DVRs available on the network" appears frequently (but not always) when I "Pick Recodings to Transfer" in TD2.4. Sometimes rebooting the PC will solve the problem and I can then pick recordings to transfer. Doesn't anyone else see this behavior?

There's nothing to talk about from a technical perspective. Tivo2Go isn't enabled on them.

taz, are you running a software firewall, like ZoneAlarm, on the PC?

I have this problem every time I start up the TiVo Desktop. My laptop has a number of VPN connections defined, and the TiVo Desktop always seems to use one of these for the network identification. I have to switch it to my regular tcp/ip connection, then all is well.
In the TiVo Desktop, go to the Server menu, then select TiVo Server Properties. Under Network Identification, check that the correct ethernet adapter is being used. If it shows one of your VPN connections, click Select and choose the correct adapter.
