OK - I got my HD in the mail and will attempt to do the upgrade tomorrow....
I am going over the directions and it just isn't making a whole lot of sense (actually i am reading through the support forum at weaknees and THAT is making me nervous)
Just to make it clear and please correct me if this is wrong...
1 - Remove original tivo drive
2 - put new drive and orig tivo drive onto my pc (new hd is slaved and tivo drive is master)
3 - Boot with cdr with the ISO on the weaknees website burned on it
4 - type the commands it says exactly
5 - bam! done
I do php, actionscripting, flash, etc etc programming but am nervous about this - not sure why - maybe because the instructions feel incomplete....
wish me luck!

Is this your 80hr TCD540080?
Un-plug or remove your PC drive, make sure it boots the CD not Windows.
If you are saving programs the transfer will go mush faster if you put the drives on separate IDE channels (cables).
If it would help you could post your configuration and the command(s) that you plan on using here and get a second opinion.

I went through with everything and ambotting the drive in my tivo now - at this point it has taken a total of 25 minutes from beginning....not too bad - it is at the "Almost there. Just a few minutes more..." screen
/fingers crossed
----Ahhh the sweet smell of success! I was tripping for nothing! Although the directions make the whole situation appear more difficult than it truly is they were correct and easy in the end. A first it would not work on mypc but the drive letters needed to be in lowercase and bam - done!

271 hrs But I will prob get 100 rs of high quality which is fine - then again I would do this with a larger drive in a second - even add another drive....

Glad I'm not the only person that knows PCs and scripting well but gets cold feet when wanting to make the leap around here!

Glad you got it working. The one thing to keep in mind with Tivo upgrades of any kind is that as long as you're working with a separate drive for any upgrades or hacks, you can't bork your Tivo unless you do something stupid like drop a screwdriver on the power supply while it's plugged in. You can easily foobar the upgrade but you can simply start over and reinstall the software. Make a backup of the original drive or put it away for safekeeping and you'll be sure to always have a working Tivo.
Unfortunately, many people have the same attitude towards upgrading a Tivo. They either don't want to be bothered with it or they're too timid to give it a try. These are the folks outfits like Weaknees and DVRUpgrade make their living off of. Now that you've done it yourself you understand how ridiculously simple it is. You also saved yourself big bucks by not paying the extortionist prices charged by the aforementioned for an upgrade drive you can buy for much less.
