With HDMI audio comes and goes

I have my HD Tivo Directv DVR hooked to a Panasonic Plasma using an HDMI cable, and sometimes I turn on the TV and get no audio. Other times, I turn on the TV and everything is fine. It seems random. Has anyone else ever experienced this? One more thing. This started after mounting the plasma on the wall. I switched to a longer cable so that the cable could go into the wall and come out at the TV. Could the cable be to blame?

The Panasonic plasma probably doesn't decode DD 5.1 from an HDMI input, which means HDTV material will have no audio. You can switch the audio settings to "DD via PCM" or listen through a receiver connected via HDMI or the optical connection.
