I just heard that Sam Carter was moving to Atlantis once BSG is over. Evidentally, she replaces Weir as the Commander.

Has anyone heard anymore about this? I wonder if Weir stays on? They made her look somewhat battle fatigued recently, but going back to Atlantis to take on the Replicators appeared to revive her spirits.

does the word SPOILER mean anything to you? ;)

Weir was the reason I took so long to start watching the show so if she leaves I'll be happy. I finally did start watching because of all the crossover.

I also didn't know that Sam was on BSG - Isn't she on SG-1?

Oh well, life goes on...

I wouldn't bet on that last bit--apparently Amanda Tapping is being moved to Atlantis for the last year of her Stargate contract, and rumor has it she's not entirely thrilled. So if that's true, I doubt they would replace a major character only to have to replace the replacement a year later.

It's more likely that she will replace Carson Beckett, who is supposedly being killed off later this season, and whose death is apparently going to be temporary--i.e., after Tapping is gone, they can bring him back. That way, they make room in the cast for a new regular, who will fill a similar function (science geek), and yet not make the change permanent.

There's an Amanda Tapping interview in the latest TV Guide:

She confirms she will be replacing Weir as station commander. Torri Higginson is leaving the show.

Sorry. It was an honest mistake. I would be glad to hear news like this. How do I do the spoiler posting?

My sincerest apologies to anyone whose viewing is spoiled by my error.

How do I do the spoiler posting?Highlight below to read answer.
use the color Lemon Chiffon when you post something that you want invisible. That color is located just above the area that you type your response in. Reply to a post or start a new one and use that color If you make a mistake and want to add to the post after you put it in just move the part to the end of what you are typing and all will be hidden. If you use white like most people you will see a white box like the above spoiler alert.

Huh? How about just tagging with
?

I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to check this site to see what other UBB codes I can use.

What MickeS is saying is

place these spoiler tags in between anything you type to get a spoiler posting

type something inside of here

I misspelled the word spoiler so you can see what tags MickeS is talking about. Had I used the correct spelling it would look like this.

Actually, Carson is a Medical Doctor. It's Rodney who's the "science geek", and it seems he's staying.

Rodney and Carson are both science geeks. The show doesn't need three, which is almost certainly why Carson is getting the boot.

And why send this both as a PM and a post?!?

I don't understand why they would not want to have a Medical Doctor in Atlantis. As far as I recall Carson is the only one. Neither Rodney or Sam can replace an MD.

Having said that I hate the Carson character so it would suit me fine to see a replacement character but it sure seems to me they do need an MD on Atlantis.

Afterthought: Let's get Dr Lam there!!! :)

or lets just blow the roof off these shows and send Dr. Who to Atlantis :D
The Dalek could absorb Wraith DNA and be really tough to beat.
Plus the replicators seem right proper as the Good Doctor's type of enemy

There are already several doctors in Atlantis--any number of the faceless extras standing in the background whenever they're in the medical lab. They'll still be there; we just won't see doctor'n going on on-screen as much as we did with Carson.

I've always wondered who those people were...

For a time I thought they might be mental projections from whales, well not really whales... :)

Jewel Staite (from Firefly) will be the new doctor. She'll be a recurring character, not a regular.

Although the thread title mentions spoilers, I'm going to spoiler font some things below just in case. Highlight at your own risk.

Correct, Jewel Staite will be playing Dr. Keller, who (spoiler for season 3) appears in the season finale, "First Strike."

Also, (re: other casting in season 4) Torri Higginson will appear in what looks like a minimum of four episodes as Weir, and Paul McGillion will be back for at least two or three episodes around mid-season as Beckett.

Also, Tapping is only scheduled for 14 of 20 episodes...

The addition of Jewel Staite to the cast of SG:A is a welcome change. She's much better looking than Dr. Beckett.

Does anyone know why the actress who played the original Elizabeth Weir didn't continue the role from that two-part episode on SG:1 onto Atlantis? I know this is probably asked and answered a couple years ago.

I don't know if this is the reason, but her performance was terrible--I didn't buy her as somebody whom I would choose to lead a shopping expedition, let alone a military/diplomatic mission upon which the fate of the human race may depend.

Which is odd, because she was very convincing as a leader in Earth 2. But she made some just awful choices as Weir, and I hope the producers realized they needed to go in another direction.

I did notice that they really made significant changes to her character from SG:1 to SG:A. That's as good a reason as any though at the time of that SG:1 episode, I don't remember is SG:A had been announced as a series yet.

I'm pretty sure we knew when the SG-1 episodes aired that they were leading into the new series.

And I'm pretty sure the new series had been announced well before that...

I agree with you on this. So it won't be Rodney arguing with Radek, but Rodney arguing with Radek AND Sam. Great. Zaniness ensues.

The lines that Sheppard was using to test Rodney's hearing were priceless. "Zelenka is smarter than you." If he had heard it, he would have said something.

let's not forget that episode where Rodney hallucinated Sam to help him through getting out of the craft he was trapped underwater in. They made some kind of deeper connection between the two with that, though Rodney in his typical way would not speak much of it.

actually, Rodney confessed to Sam about that...Sam even asked him if they...you know...wink wink...and Rodney said yes!

plus, Rodney is on record saying that he's always had a weakness for dumb blondes!

and maybe if Sam is there, she'll force Sheppard to get something closer to a military haircut. Bugs the heck out of me. :)

We had some serious disagreements about this, as I really liked Jessica Steen's Dr. Weir, and I totally believed her portrayal in SG-1 of Weir as a famous negotiator turned fish-out-of-water. But that's water under the bridge .... ;)

I agree, and agreed with you about liking Jessica Steen's Dr. Weir better than Torri Higginson's. I got tons of nasty replies questioning my judgement. As you said, that ship has sailed. She was recently killed off in her recurring role in NCIS.
