I have a phillips Series 2 Directv Tivo dual tuner with a USB port, I have been using my phone line for updates up to this point, but I want to get rid of my phone line and find analternate way to keep my Tivo updated.

I saw that Tivo has the TIVO AG0100 Wireless G USB Network Adapter and I was wondering if anyone has had any sucess using this adapter to get thier updates? I do have a Wireless G network in my home for home PC use. I'm not sure which exact modeil I have at home, I am at work now, but it is a Phillips model and I have had it since 2004.

Any help would be great.

A stock unit won't do that... you MAY find help in the hacking forum

You need a phone line or serial PPP. To hack to support networking would disable any call that it makes home. Plus, I believe, the TiVo adapter isn't supported on the D-TiVos.

FYI there's only been one software update in the past two years. And that update was minor to fix the new Daylight Saving Time schedule that went into affect this year. DirecTivo's get all program data from the satellite and the phone line is just used for PPV purchases ordered thru Tivo.

The Tivo Hacking forum mentioned above is the right place to go if you want to enable your USB port to enable Multiroom Room Viewing between Tivo's and other interesting things.

I thought the new software was also designed to fix the "new data structure" problem that was discussed in the two messages above... which, to me, was a bit more than a "minor" fix!

Well DirecTV isn't broadcasting the new 'enhanced' programming data - so it's impossible to determine what was changed in the 6.2a software. I'm still running 6.2 on both of my zippered DirecTivo's and they operate perfectly.

Software updates for Directv and Directv/Tivo units are over the Sat. You do not need a phoneline to get the updates.

The only real use of the Phoneline now is for PPV ordering, even tho you can just order that online to.

I thought that updates, which are normally sent down the satellite data stream, required a telephone call to "trigger" the install?

So... no phone call, no install... true?

So... no phone call, no install... true?Correct. The update comes via satellite (unless it is no longer being distributed via sat), then to trigger the install it has to "phone home".

If it is no longer on the satellite then it will try to download via phone call.

Then, why do our D*Tivos call in every week?

To keep track of PPV purchases and bill accordingly.

And trust me, your DTivo unit will continue to perform flawlessly disconnected from a phone line. Both of mine have been unplugged for over a year and work perfectly.

Just order your PPV movies from directv.com and you'll have no issues.
