Is there anyway to have the HR10 give the amount of disk used?

an old write up of mine for someone else...it may or may not help you:
from now on, if you have your now playing list sorted by date, at
the bottom of that list will be suggestions. (if you dont know already,
you can use the advance key to go right to the bottom of the list on
the HD tivo but not on any other machine i think). They will have a
black icon next to them. If you sort by alpha, they will be mixed in so I
prefer to keep the list by date.
if you go to 'pick progams to record' and hit suggestions, it will show
you all that will be recorded, providing you dont have anything
yourself recording. They will never override your recording. This doesn't
matter but if you are curious you can check what it will record. I never
look at it really.
it will take a few days to 'fill up' but what will happen is at the
bottom of your NP list, you will have all the suggestions. there are 8
programs per page listed. However keep in mind when you scroll, the last
one becomes the first one on the next page. I ignore this fact for the
most part. So, what I do is, for every page of suggestions, I assume I
have room for 1- 1 hr hi def program or 8 -1 hr standard def programs.
This is by NO means perfect, but it's a great approximation.
The reason it isn't perfect is because if tivo isnt recording any
suggestions at the moment, or if it isn't scheduled to after you have just
deleted some shows, it may take time to 'build up' to a 'full' tivo, if
you know what I mean.
Also, if any of the suggestion are in hi def, each one of those is
equivalent to a 'regular' page of suggestions, if you know what I mean.
For example if you have one page of suggestions (8 items) and there are 2
1 hr programs in hi def, you 'really' have 16 hours of SD recording
available in those 2 hi def suggestions.

It's been a while since this tip was posted, so it probably can't hurt to post it again. One poster uses the technique above with a clever twist, which is that he sets a SP for "Law and Order" on TNTHD, to record all eps, delete for space, bottom of the list. Since they run that show as much as 16 times a day, this can give you a nice idea in 1-hr HD chunks of what space you have, and it's viable just 2 or 3 days after you set the SP. The only problem with this is that non-suggestions can get deleted for "Law and Order" eps unless everything is set as SUID, which might not then be the best idea.
What I think is a better twist on this, although it takes longer to accumulate and takes a little more work, is to set 3 thumbs up on that program, and thumbs down on all other suggestions. This doesn't have the deletion problem above. Either way, under 6.x you get all of your suggestions for that one program in one neat folder.
I can't claim authorship, but a tip of the hat to whoever first posted this.

Be careful doing this. 6.x is currently having a problem when the drive fills up of not deleting old recordings to make room for new recordings. I would avoid filling up your drive even with suggestions.

Yes, if you want to modify it using the zipper.

if you decide to use suggestions, go to CMT , CNN, TUBE, and other news shows etc as they have regular count downs, long news blocks, music blocks, regularly on. Even weather channel. Or you can just spend some time looking thru the listings yourself. I prefer to have long blocks of shows on the suggestions so it gives me a 'bigger cushion'

That's a terrific point. In my case, to accomodate this, I regularly delete some of the suggestions manually. For instance, I get home and there are 23 rogue eps of "Law and Order", meaning I have at least 23 hours of HD space. If I have 3 hours of recording scheduled for the next day, I delete at least 3 of the suggestions, typically 5 or 6.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
