I see every on complains about the R15 BUT it has one feature that the tivo do not have unless I am wrong . The r15 will change channels without recording it automatic like the plain boxes do ?? If the tivo ones will do it can someone explain how to do it I have two SD-DVR40 and cannot figure out how to make them do it

This is not a feature on TiVo. I'm not sure why you would need it.

I believe the OP is referring to AutoTune...
Which is not a feature of ANY DVR on DirecTV...
I honestly don't think AutoTune is a feature of ANY DVR on ANY provider, or standalone offerings.

Maye I said that wrong
Lets say you want to watch something at 10:00 fri If you set that on a regular box on fri if you are on a different channel it will change auto at 10.00
I hope I got that right now
I was told that r15 does it

Based on your first post, and this post... I am combining them...
On Friday 10pm, you just want the tuner to change channel but NOT record...
If so...
That is the Auto-Tune... and no, the R15/HR20, DTiVo, Ultimate... no DirecTV-DVR (or any DVR that I am aware of), has the Auto-Tune feature.

Why do you need this feature? Do you want it to be on a certain channel when you wake up? If that is the case you could setup a 1 recording on the channel and set it to keep 1 episode. For two tuners you would have to setup 2 recordings that overlap on the same channel.
If it is just to watch something just set it up to record the program.

Of the tivo ones is there any real differences I assume you mean any differences in models. Pretty much all the series 2 machines where made in the same plant in Mexico except the Samsung was made in Korea. The hardware is the same with different plastic faceplates. The R10 some people consider a series 2.5 and has some extra security features. If you do not plan on hacking the machine besides changing the hard drive then any series 2 or R10 will work fine. If you plan on doing any hacking then do not get a R10.

You are talking about Auto-Tune. Say you are watching a Show at 9.30 PM on One Channel, and another show you want to watch starts at 11.00 PM on a different Channel, you can set the receiver to automatically tune to the other Show/Channel.
The only Directv units that have this feature are the D11 and D12 Standard Receivers. No DVR unit has this feature.
As for the different Directv/tivo units, there are really no differences unless you want to hack. The stay clear of the R10 and R15. You need to get an earlier Series 1 or 2 model.

Wrong Earl (finally caught your mistake after many years of trying :)). DishDVR has autotune, always had it since 501.
