NOTICE: Unrelated introduction ahead

Hello there, as you may have notice I am new to the forums but I still have plenty to contribute. I currently own a D10-300 which was a leaser an installation tech sold to me for a small fee. First off, I don't think I can use it because I know the card is marked leased and MIA, and probably the box's serial but I don't know, can someone verify this? Anyway, I ended up using it's 160 gig Maxtor Diamondmax 10 6l160p0 for extra space in one of my machines.

Back to the point, I can now afford to pull out the other 80 gig I have in the machine I was using for free space aswell due to a botched backup. I tried upgrading this R10 a few years ago and the backup was bad. I also was without high speed internet so it was out of service. Now that I have DTV again and high speed internet I'd like to get some kind of DVR going, let me know if there's anything I can do with my fancy bootlegged D10-300 but right now I need the OS/image for a DirecTV R10. Installing a hacked OS in one straightshot move would be wonderful aswell, I have decent linux experience and I dual boot Debian. Could someone show me where to start?

Thanks

this will get you the image for the R10

As far as hacking it, its a no go. You can put any size drive(s), 80,160,240 gig you want.

And a note to John T Smith. Please try to at least answer the question before referring the poster to other forums.

Since this is not the hacking forum... why is a link TO the hacking forum a bad thing?

OP:

Have you replaced the eprom on the R10? If not, then you haven't done your homework.

Asking for a pre-hacked image also lends itself to the suggestion you have not done your homework.

I may be able to help you out in finding an unhacked image, however. PM me for info.

Since this is not the hacking forum... why is a link TO the hacking forum a bad thing?Because the OP will have to ask the same question there.

With a little help here he won't necessarily be starting his search for an answer all over again. Also a nudge to include more info (not the case here) in the correct forum will help members narrow down an answer.

I've found InstantCake for R10 on demonoid, fairly fresh and properly seeded. Do I need to replace the eeprom to really perform any useful modifications?

You don't need to replace the EEPROM to upgrade the hard drive. But why not pay for the InstantCake download?
