This has got my wife and me really PO'ed. For some months now, the NBC shows that we've gotten in letterbox in the past are not letterboxed anymore!

It now appears as though the camera is zoomed in on the center part of the screen and there is OBVIOUSLY things on either end of the screen that have been cut out.

the guide still shows the shows being in letterbox format, but I am not getting them in LB.

Does anyone know what is going on?? I'm still getting LB on other channels, just not on NBC anymore. :(

Your local station probably gave into the morons that called and said they had black bars on their screen. The majority of the TV viewing audience still think they are missing part of the show when it is letterbox.

They are. They have to watch things in 2/3 size just so producers can show a little bit more on the sides. 80% of the market is still 4 x 3.

It's one thing to have movies in a widescreen format. They are produced that way for the theater screen. But, it makes no market sense at all to produce TV shows that way.

It just means that most people are wasting a good part of their screen.

I know that there will be a lot of howling about this, but I'm not trolling. It's just logical.
