My first problem occurred after returning home from vacation and none of my OTA HD channels would register. I quickly tried to re-scan them with no luck. I figured what the hell, give DTV a call and see if they have any solutions. First operator tried sending a refresh signal, no change in operation. Then she suggested a reboot and here is where things went terribly wrong. Upon powerup after the reboot, all I get for every channel is green video noise. The HR10 is decoding the audio signal for all channels, including the OTA HD that I was not getting prior. She transfers me over to tech support whom wants to claim there is something wrong with my TV and the component video cables. I tell him look, I can use the same component cables without an issue for watching DVD's. He suggests trying the reboot again, final result is the same green video noise. His final verdict is the hard drive is toast inside the TIVO and suggests getting the new DTV HD DVR. I do not want to give up my TIVO interface, does anyone have any suggestions for saving my TIVO?

Go to PTVUpgrade or 9th Tee or one of the other forum sponsors, and purchase a preloaded HDD. You'll be up and running in no time.
Edit: Hold the phone...this doesn't sound like a HDD problem. If it were you would not be getting audio. It sounds more like a problem with the video output circuitry. If so, it could be fixed, but likely only by Tivo, and at some expense. DTV is more interested in sending a new one, and not a Tivo, but a HR20.
Try Jim's test (I think you have to shuttle to output to 480i to make the S or baseband video outputs active). That should be conclusive.

As a test, try the composite output (480i).
If it is indeed the hard drive, you can replace it.

Try changing the output resolution of the TiVo, either "up" with the remote control, or the button on the front of the TiVo.
This always fixes it for me on the rare occasion it's happened.
2 or 3 times since I got it.

I've used the same trick successfully. Just change the "format" to some other resolution, 480i, 720p, 1080i.
I've gotten it using Component, and when switched to HDMI, it went away, on that signal, but switching back, component still had the green screen issue.
Changing the resolution always worked.
