View Full Version : New to HD, DTV (non-dvr) has no HDMI out?!?

I've had standalone and DTiVos for over 5 years. I just purchased a HDTV and, as everyone knows, had to let TiVo go (as I currently had DTV). I recently dropped $300 for the HD-DVR from DirecTV. The PQ is fine, sound is iffy sometimes, and the UI, for lack of a better word, sucks.

The HD-DVR has a HDMI port on the back to connect directly to my television. This works fine.

I asked them to drop another line upstairs, for a total of 2 in one outlet, so I could add another HDTV + DVR in this location. I stated, I need HD capability in both of these rooms. I come home to find, no new line dropped, and a receiver upstairs with coaxial out? Upon looking at the receiver it doesn't have a HDMI port whatsoever.

I had my wife call, yes I should have, and they stated their receivers don't support HDMI ports?! I've attempted to call them tonight but was disconnected after 15 mins on hold.

As I dropped 2k on a new TV, I'd like to have utilize the best possible connection, HDMI. The receiver, I currently have, doesn't even have component.

Did I just get the wrong receiver?

If so, does a normal (non-dvr) receiver have HDMI out? If not, is component "just as good"? I feel like I'm "gimping" my quality w/ anything less that HDMI. If the Series 3 wasn't so pricey this wouldn't be an issue, but I would be amazed if DirecTV's hardware wasn't even up to par...

Can anyone please advise? Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

What is the receiver model? H20?

It's model D11.

I finally got someone quite knowledgable on the phone. We decided to switch the D11 box out with a non-DVR, HDMI out, receiver. At first he tried to charge me $100 for it, but he broke down after a few minutes.

The installer didn't even disconnect my old box, he just left it "active" on the account.

All in all, after 3 service calls and 3 phone calls it will hopefully be handled.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen to me whine and hopefully this will be rectified soon.

There was your problem. The D11 is not a high definition receiver.

Aern't they charging you an extra 5 bux a month for the active reciever that you are not using now?
