I've had standalone and DTiVos for over 5 years. I just purchased a HDTV and, as everyone knows, had to let TiVo go (as I currently had DTV). I recently dropped $300 for the HD-DVR from DirecTV. The PQ is fine, sound is iffy sometimes, and the UI, for lack of a better word, sucks.
The HD-DVR has a HDMI port on the back to connect directly to my television. This works fine.
I asked them to drop another line upstairs, for a total of 2 in one outlet, so I could add another HDTV + DVR in this location. I stated, I need HD capability in both of these rooms. I come home to find, no new line dropped, and a receiver upstairs with coaxial out? Upon looking at the receiver it doesn't have a HDMI port whatsoever.
I had my wife call, yes I should have, and they stated their receivers don't support HDMI ports?! I've attempted to call them tonight but was disconnected after 15 mins on hold.
As I dropped 2k on a new TV, I'd like to have utilize the best possible connection, HDMI. The receiver, I currently have, doesn't even have component.
Did I just get the wrong receiver?
If so, does a normal (non-dvr) receiver have HDMI out? If not, is component "just as good"? I feel like I'm "gimping" my quality w/ anything less that HDMI. If the Series 3 wasn't so pricey this wouldn't be an issue, but I would be amazed if DirecTV's hardware wasn't even up to par...
Can anyone please advise? Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
