View Full Version : After InstantCake I'm now in Chicago???

I know there is a forum for InstantCake at *************, but I really don't want to register at another forum, and I know someone here will be able to help me.

My hard drive died, and I put in a new hard drive today using InstantCake. Everything went extremely smoothly. When I first went to settings it thought my TiVo was in Chicago due to a Chicago zip code from InstantCake. I dutifully went into "Repeat guided setup." I changed the zip code to mine here in RI. I also then set up a secondary local area as Boston, as I also get their locals OTA. Then I did a channel scan.

The problem is that the TiVo still thinks I'm in Chicago. In the channel list it has all the Chicago locals. It is clear they are due to the call letters. Further compounding the problem is that it won't let me remove any channels it has identified. Removing the check mark next to the channel to mark it not a channel I receive does nothing. When I am watching TV hitting the up or down channel button, the TiVo cycles through everyone of these stations. If I go into System Information it lists the correct local zip code.

I have gone through Guided setup several times. I have checked and unchecked the stations several times. I have rebooted several times. I changed the dial in number to a local number, and then forced a dial-in. The interesting thing here is that that phone call lasted about 10 minutes, and afterwards it said it was "loading data" for about 10 minutes also. This never happened to me before, but nothing changed.

Is there any way to get the TiVo to reset to a town other than Chicago? I think as a last resort I would do a clear and delete everything, but the next three nights there are programs I need to record (or my SO won't be happy), and I really don't know how long a clean and delete would take.

TIA

You must do a "Clear and Delete" after using InstantCake then repeat guided set up.

When I used InstantCake on a brand new drive, the "Clear and Delete" took less than hour.
I also used InstantCake on a used drive and that took over four hours.

I used the PTVupgrade image and then zippered it. You don't have to do a C&D. Just check out the zipper wiki and follow the instructions

Well, I actually did a C&D overnight. After going through guided setup I seem to be OK, and I seem to be back in RI with the correct channels listed under channels I receive, except hat I still can't get the damn channels I don't want (and don't receive) to stop showing up. Again, I have unchecked the boxes next to them, but using channel up/down I still get all the channels.

Am I forgetting something I did in the past???

Thanks to all.

I believe on the instacake support boards it says this will happen. You can either wait overnight and it fixes itself or do what I did and call D* and have them hit the card again and that fixes the problem.

I don't know doodly about instantcake, etc., but just wanted to make sure you set the onscreen guide to channels you receive or favorites.

Thank you! This was the missing piece. I knew that I had to find some way to tell the TiVo to display only the channels I receive, and I finally found it by going into the guide.

Thanks to all who helped! I'm back in business.
