I bought a used Hughes SD-DVR40 It works fine BUT when you hit the recod button it waits a long time before it starts to record. ALso when you hit the tivo button at the top and try to modify or change a setting it take a while between the time you hit it and the time it does it . If it has been midified how can I tell

For pre 6.2 units that sounds about right . 6.2+ improved that part a lot. Go to messages and setup - system information and see what is listed under "tivo software version". Post that number here. If the number is less than 6.2xxxxxxxx then you still have the old software. That alone doesn't tell you if it's been hacked though . Look on the top of that same screen, does it say "BACKDOORS ENABLED!"? Mine does but I'm not sure if the zipper program enables that or not, never used it as I do my hacks manually.

Have you done a "Clear and Delete everything" from the setup menus? That might clear up the problem. Also, what software version is it running?

software version is 6.2-01-2-151

Also I notice in the place you store what you have recorded it has folders my other one that screams from click to click does not is that mean it has been hacked ??

If so how do i restore it back to normal

The waiting between click is like a minute or so

It could also be a failing hard drive.
