So, I had the install in the new house over the weekend.
For those of you not on the freebies post, I had to do a 2 yr commit, but got new dish, 7 lines and the new HD DVR for free.
I was using an older dish which was on the house already, to run an old RCA and the HD TIVO over the past couple days, but now with the NEW dish and the NEW HD DVR hooked up, I have this wierd feeling that the OLD RCA and the OLD tivo image quality are somehow compramissed.
It seems much more pixelated, or blotchy. But my feeling is that that should not be possible. These OLD receivers are clearly receiving the older MPGE 2 streams from the same old sats. Digital is Digital, if I am GETTING it, it should be the same, right?
The wiring in one room hasn't changed since yeseterday, I left those cables the same. New MULTI Switch was put in place, but I don't think that should degrade the signal, should it? and again, I am getting CLEAR 90+ signals.
Is there somewhere I should look maybe for a signal degradation issue?

Does it look blotchy with only one receiver physically connected to the muliti switch? Is the new units providing such a good PQ that the older units just look poor?

I haven't taken out the other receivers, but will try that.
Does anyone know exaactly what the K-band filters are to do with the new H20-700 receiver? The DTV installed guydidn't put them on, maybe they give some filtering, upstream?
PQ just seems poor, but I'll continue to monitor.

The H20 is not a DTivo, and has a different forum

Indeed, familiar on dbs forum stuff relative to the new H20 and not really asking about IT per se, but the signal degradation on the other current TIVO devices that I have.

This is not asking about the H20?

How are you connecting to your TV? The HR20 could be doing different processing on the image when converting for mepg-2. The HR20 could also have better D/A conversion if you are hooked up with component cables.

There should be no difference in picture quality between the 3LNB and 5LNB.
With the older Receivers you have, have you re-run setup? Tell the receivers your Dish Setup has changed.
Worked for me. Just do an Auto Sat Setup.

thanks wofllord, I'll try that.
this is all related to a quality issue on the original HDTIVO and Tivo DVR from D*, I thought maybe the filters for the H20, were necessary if there were older Mpeg2 devices in the setup.

The extra RF box that comes with the H20 is not a filter. It is a frequency translator/shifter, that will be needed when the D* sat system is fully deployed. Over simplifying, there is not enough room to fit the new channels so some are shifted and multiplexed by the Antenna and then deshifted by the frequency translator box. It has no affect on any other device. Since they have been causing problems and are of currently no use, some installers have not installing them.
The 5LNB dish is pointed in a different direction than the 3LNB, but is also larger. Most find the signal level improved by the 5LNB, enough to eliminate rain fade for some.
The signal is digital, so you may see pixelization or macroblocking artifacts if the connections are poor. You should not be seeing PQ softness as a result of signal quality, unless its an optical illusion (i.e. the PQ on another set/system is better which all of a sudden makes the current system seem soft).
