Okay. Off to see if there is anything worth recording.:)

This includes the Encore channels?

Too bad DirecTV doesn't offer a Starz HD channel. :(

I think Monster House might make an appearance during the preview, but not according to the current Program Guide. I think Chicken Little got the same "sneak it in" treatment during the last Free Preview Weekend.

From the press release I googled (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070404/law096.html?.v=76) :

The free preview weekend features Hollywood-hits available exclusively on Starz including Monster House, Click, RV, The Shaggy Dog and more. Viewers will also have an opportunity to see exclusive content for movies coming to Starz later this summer, which include Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Cars, The Da Vinci Code and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

DIRECTV customers who sign up for the Starz Super Pack during the free preview may be eligible for a $25 credit on their DIRECTV bill with proof of a new, two-month subscription.

Depends on your tastes, but I like: Proof; The Brothers Grimm; RV; Martin Lawrence Stand Up; FlightPlan; Higher Learning; Hitch.

Plus, lots of good stuff for the kiddos--my niece and nephew will be happy with their new shows.

Yes this includes the Encore Channels.

The Brothers Grimm is a good movie, have watched it a few times now.

We already have Starz, so no Free Weekend for us..... lol. :D

That could be worth about $1.20.

That could be worth about $1.20.
Every penny counts :) Ok not really  ;) Still theres something to be said about satisfaction ;) Especialy if they ruin it like usual by scrolling crap through your movies.

The value of these free weekends is they confirm there is nothing of value.

I subscribed to everything, forever, up until a couple of years ago. Every free weekend since, I do a scan. Nothing.

I thought the long HBO free preview was a big disappointment. Hopefully this Starz/Encore one will provide something decent to watch.
That said, I'm not sure any "premium" station has the repetition that Starz has.

For those that are interested, Monster House is in the promo that I saw.

Tivoed about 10 movies off the HBO freeview.

I can't find one worthwhile movie to Tivo off of any of the Starz channels this time around...

Time to get ready for the showtime freeview. (crossing my fingers for better movies)

I guess we have different tastes since I set up at least a dozen movies to Tivo. I don't have any of the premium channels, so probably more movies are "new" to me.

On the subject of "Free Preview" weekends, does anyone know of a clearinghouse for this information when it is being announced by DirecTV?

I don't subscribe to any premium channels, and typically use the Free Preview weekends to stock up on movies that I've never had a chance to see (with 5 kids ages 6 and under, trips to the movies and DVD rentals are pretty much a rarity in my house).

I troll the TC boards on a regular basis for this info, but I always seem to miss these announcements...

You might want to re-phrase that.

I just went over to Directv.com and could not find any mention of the free Starz weekend, nor did I receive an email notification of this event. Only by reading this forum did I learn of it.

So thanks to all of you, but why does D* want to keep this stuff secret?

Besides subscribing to the freebie thread and subscribing to the email news at DirecTV, I'm not sure. They used to send out info in the Message section to inform people of these; however, for whatever reason, they stopped doing it. I think the only message I've gotten in the last 2+ years is about the daylight savings time update.

I don't have any premiums channels either.

And we go out to the movies once, maybe twice a year.
Haven't rented a DVD in almost 3 years.
Get maybe 1 PPV movie every other month, of a movie we might have bothered to go to the theater for. (Superman Returns and the Prestige were the last two we got)
We watch network TV all winter and then when DirecTV runs the free views, we load up on a year's worth of movies that we haven't seen and watch them all summer during network re-run season.

So we are always WAAAYYYY behind on recently released movies when the Freeviews roll around.

On Starz this weekend.... Friday -Are We There Yet?, Underworld Evolution and Stealth in primetime? (weren't all 3 of them on during the last Freeview?)

On Saturday Night, when the blockbusters usually air, Bewitched, Monster House and the Benchwarmers?!?!?!?!? (3 complete crap movies you couldn't pay me to watch, let alone get me to watch for free.)

Usually I find twice as many good movies on the Starz weekends than the HBO or Showtime ones...

Just surprised Starz picked such a weak weekend, programming-wise, to try and lure prospective customers to their product.
