View Full Version : Copyright Restrictions

Up until a month or so ago I have never been restricted from burning a show to DVD on my Toshiba RS-TX60. Now every show is restricted. I have read several defunct threads here which seem to blame my Cable company (Comcast), and yet others who blame Tivo. I have tried to no avail to explain the broadcast flag issue to a level 1 support tech at Comcast but they are simply ignorant about the issue and state that they don't support Tivo. My question is, Has anyone successfully addressed this problem? I saw where one person suggested a "Factory Reset" which I suppose I could do on my Pace 551HD box, but from posts in other forums, this could cause more problems than it solves.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. I would rather not purchase a Sima GoDvd or other filter unless all is lost.

I haven't encountered this yet so I speculate. I'd be more inclined to believe that the copyright flag comes with the guide data from TiVo. Can you predict what shows or channels will give you problems?

It's all of them OTA, Digital, any program is restricted. It dawned on me that I didn't have this problem until I got my HDTV and new Pace DC 551 HD set top cable box from Comcast. I wonder if that's the problem. Anyway, the box went haywire on me today and I'll be trading it in Monday. Maybe I'll have better luck with the new box.

Hi,
I'm in the same situation, however, I have no new box/TiVo/DVD player...it was all fine a few days ago...now all recording is prohibited.
I tried the "unplug Tivo" suggestion I read in an old post...it was a no-go.
I'm with Comcast.
Anyone else? If so PLEASE POST!!!

You might want to try and record a program that is part of the "Cable in The Classroom" and see if the flags are there.
Programs on the Sci-Fi, Weather, and many more channels. Twilight Zone on Sci-Fi in the early morning hours is CITC authorized!
I suspect you will find them added to that programming as well. If that is the case then contact the cable operator and inform them of this. It is illegal for the cable operators to flag that content. Once you explain to them about their error and or inform your local cable board you will see the flags coming down!
It is locally controlled - fight them on this.

Can you check and see what version of software your TIVO has. The only thing I can think is that perhaps you have received some new software update and perhaps the programmers screwed up. NOTE: I have Humax tivos and I can still record with no problem and I have software 8.1
Hope this helps...
