Direct TV and DVR

I know this may not be the perfect place to ask this question but I will give it a shot. I am about to sign up for Direct TV with their DVR service.

1) Is the DVR service a TIVO unit/service?
2) Does the Direct TV unit allow me to transfer the DVR progrms to my laptop like the TIVO To Go service I had before?
3) Can the Direct TV unit be connected to my home network like the TIVO To Go service?

DirecTV doesn't send Tivo-based DVRs anymore. If you're getting a standard definition DVR it will be an R15. If you're getting HiDef DVR, it will be an HR20.

No. The Directv DVR service is not a Tivo Service. Using a Directv/Tivo unit, you get the basic features of Tivo, but still deal only with Directv.

No. There currently is no Program like the Tivo to Go Service. If the unit you are getting is a Directv unit only, then forget any Transfers etc. If you get a Directv/Tivo unit then you can do this with some units, but they will need to be hacked in order to get this feature. Impossible with a R10 Directv/Tivo unit as it needs a Hardware mod.

3) Can the Direct TV unit be connected to my home network like the TIVO To Go service?

Only a hacked Directv/Tivo unit can do this. It is similar to Tivo to go.

As litzdog911 has said, if you are getting Directv, then you will get a R15 for standard DVR service, or a HR20 for High Def service. You do not get to pick and choose units. Both these units are currently the Directv in house units.
