I have 3 HR10-250 DVRs which have just been removed from service, and which I want to sell, presumably on eBay.

All have been upgraded to dual Hard Drives - 2 with dual Seagate 300 GB drives with about 3 years left on warranty, and the other using one of the original drives from the first two, so dual 250GB with no warranty.

My question is: do you all think I will do better selling them as modified, or should I restore them all to single-drive, 250GB, using the original drives, or single 300 GB drives with warranty, and in either case restoring the original software as supplied ( which was 3.1.5, or maybe even earlier)

I have original boxes, manuals, and cables, remotes, etc. so I can list them as "Like New".

What do you think? I welcome all comments, either on the forum, or by PM.

Thanks,
Richard

I would guess that you'll get a better price with the enhancements.

I have recently sold (4) HR10s on eBay.

If possible, include the means to restore to a single drive configuration. Do this, if you sell them on eBay, BE SURE to say that they are indeed upgraded models.

It's been my experience that the dual drive upgrades FAIL faster then the single drive units and/or single 500GB drives.

I have (2) HR10s running in my house. One is the main tivo running the house we'll call it Wifey's tv. This is a 250 stock + 250 upgrade B drive.

HR10 in master bedroom on 42" LCD, replaced stock 250, with Seagate 500GB drive.

Tivo one seems to run faster then tivo 2. But Tivo 1 definately more noisey.

Food for thought. After all, advertise them on your local craigslist.org.

When I was selling an HR10-250 on eBay, I tracked prices for a while to determine whether I should go to the trouble of upgrading it first to get some extra money. I found that units with larger hard drives really didn't dependably bring in a higher price-- some stock HR10-250s were selling for the same prices as ones with 500GB drives. The determining factors on price seemed to be things like the condition, whether all the accessories are included, and the quality of the auction description. I decided not to go through the trouble of upgrading, and mine sold for a lot more than other 500GB units.
