I called DirecTV to upgrade to HD service (with an HR20 DVR) after a friend told me they charged him $30 for the 5lnb dish install + HR20, and gave 6 mo of $10 statement credits, however the best deal they said was possible for me (3+ year autopay customer) for a charge of $299 for the HR20 and a statement credit of $150. Not acceptable to me so I'm jumping ship to Time Warner Cable until Fios is available in my area. :)
My question: We have a DirecTivo (hacked) with many hundreds of episodes on it. When I tell DirecTV to pull the plug, will I have any difficulty watching those remaining episodes?
My apologies if this was already answered. I tried searching but couldn't find the info.
Thanks!

You can still get to 'Now Playing' without the service.

Yep. When the DTiVo is on the screen where it tries to acquire the satellite just press the TiVo button twice to get to Now Playing. (It doesn't finish booting normally because it can't find the satellites)

You can still watch all recorded shows as has been pointed out. So you lose none of those.
As for the deal you got offered, have you tried talking to different CSR's? When we upgraded to DVR I was told that it would be $99.00 for the DVR. Well, I talked to several other CSR's on different Days and first it was Free, with a $14.95 Shipping Charge, then Free with no charges.
Thats when I upgraded.
When you phone them, tell them you want to upgrade your equipment, not replace, or add more.
